Fired Apprentice star Akshay 'disappointed' mum as he didn't find romance on BBC show

The Apprentice has lost another entrepreneur as Akshay Thakrar became the latest casualty of Lord Sugar’s firing finger.

But losing out on a £250,000 business deal with the Amstrad mogul might be the least of his worries, as the TV star revealed that his mum was “very disappointed” with one particular aspect of his performance.

Akshay’s mum was left devastated that he didn’t find love on the show while living in a shared house with his fellow contestants.

In a post-firing interview, Akshay – who lost eight of his nine tasks – admitted to Daily Star and other press that he was “too busy” to find his other half.

He admitted: “I was too busy having a coffee at the café for any romance! I wasn’t in there looking for romance, I was looking for investment. My mum was very disappointed!”

Despite his lacklustre love life in the Apprentice house, he did build “lifelong friends” with his fellow stars, explaining: “I am so grateful to have built lifelong friends from all this. Nick and Akeem for sure; we’re like brothers.

“I honestly just think we’re a good group of friends […] we really do have each other’s back!”

But it’s clear it wasn’t all plain sailing for the budding businessman, as he admitted the “group dynamics” in certain tasks “just weren’t right”.

He explained that losing eight of his tasks came dow to personality clashes.

Akshay said: ” To be honest, and I never actually said this in the boardroom as I am not someone who just blames other people, but the team dynamics just weren’t right for me.

“Like in real life situations, there will be personalities and people with a skillset to compliment yours and you just work best with them.

“I could break each task down and say why they failed, and I genuinely believe I wasn’t directly at fault, or certainly the one most at fault.”

And the mansion put on for them by Lord Sugar helped facilitate such friendships, as Akshay shared it was “just good vibes” back at the property.

He went on: ” Every time I left the boardroom, no matter who I was with, the first thing I would say when I came out is ‘Are you alright?’ It was important to me to make sure that if I’d said anything that they didn’t like, that they hadn’t taken it personally.

“Yes, it’s a competition but we lived together, and I didn’t want to take any bad vibes back home. I think we all enjoyed our down time and days off together – we’d watch films amongst the everyday chores like doing our washing, things like that. It was just good vibes for me, to be honest.”

He added: “I would love to see all of them win – maybe Lord Sugar will throw a total curveball this series! All of them deserve to win and I think they all have the potential!”

The Apprentice airs Thursdays on BBC One at 9pm
