Parents are up in arms after a presenter on children’s TV channel CBeebies appeared to say an explicit word on a kids programme – with many adamant that the word was definitely a naughty one.
In a resurfaced clip of Show Me Show Me, a Cbeebies classic from 2016, host Chris Jarvis can be seen teaching children watching at home about flying kites.
Completely taken aback by the clip that was unearthed and posted on Twitter, parents were sure that they heard the C word said over and over again when he started riding around on a scooter singing about kites.
Many parents reckoned that the host was saying c**t instead of kite, when they watched the resurfaced clip as it did the rounds on social media a matter of days ago.
The lyrics to the song, ostensibly, are “Imagine, imagine, imagine that you’re a fluttering kite.”
The clip was first broadcast back in 2016 and after a barrage of backlash at the time, CBeebies took to their Facebook page and said: “It’s kite everyone, kite! We make shows for your little ones so it’s always going to be kite.”
After the clip was unearthed again by voice actor Jayne Sharp who shared it and said: “Wait… did I hear that correctly?” TV presenter and Take Me Out legend Paddy McGuinness penned: “The kids have got to learn it from somewhere.”
People then flocked to the comments and said: “Never gets old!!”
Another penned: “I went in with no expectations or presumptions and definitely did not hear ‘kite’.”
A third person added: “I remember hearing this at the time and was struggling to process. Pretty sure this used to be the 1st programme on when CBeebies started. How it survived the editing suite is questionable.”
One outraged mum even told The Sun in 2017: “I wasn’t really taking any notice of what was on the telly, which was on while I was tidying up, but then I just heard that word, so I rewound the show because I couldn’t believe it.
“And then every time I replayed it, I just couldn’t hear anything but that word.”
While a fourth said: “For the first few loops it sounded like he was rhyming with Hunt. I had to train my brain to hear Kite and Height.”
CBeebies also commented on Jayne’s post of the unearthed clip. They wrote: “It’s clear that Chris says the word kite as that’s what the song is about.”
