BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent hits out at guest as she says 'it's a bit uncomfortable'

BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent left behind a stilted atmosphere in the studio on Monday (March 7) during one tense discussion with a guest.

F1 legend Christian Horner was on the red sofa with Sally and her co-presenter Dan Walker to discuss the upcoming races – including the fact that some Russian athletes won’t be allowed to compete due to ongoing sanctions.

Red Bull Team Principle Horner admitted: “It’s shocking to see what’s going on in the world, and sports is almost irrelevant when you see what’s going on in the world like that.”

But the conversation soon turned to the expected results of the sport – and an awkward discussion ensued as Sally accused Christian of not liking change.

Dan explained: “For those who don’t know, there have been changes made to the way the race director works – there are now two race directors and they flip-flop between races. Is that needed to change?”

Christian said it wasn’t “ideal”, adding that “one race director was preferential to me rather than splitting the role”.

And Sally quickly followed up: “So you don’t like change? You don’t like it when they change stuff!”

It only got worse as a giggling Sally admitted it was a “little bit uncomfortable” when it comes to F1 driving.

Christian stated: “Everything [is different technically]. This is the biggest rule change in 40 years, so it’s a clean sheet of paper. Not one single component from last year carries over – the tyres, the aerodynamics, everything is different.

“I think with this complete reset it’s going to change the form book.”

Sally replied: “So it’s completely different. That’s why it’s a little bit uncomfortable!”

“It is different,” Christian conceded, explaining: “We start in two weeks and with only 23 races between then and November it’s going to be an intense season.”

Sally beamed as she gushed: “I can’t wait!”

It comes after Dan was forced to apologise after interrupting in a discussion with Ukrainian refugees in Romania due to a technical fault.

While the pair were still responding to an earlier question, Dan also began to speak before apologising: “Sorry, there’s a slight delay on the line – forgive me for interrupting you. I just wonder what your plan is long-term. Have you even thought about that, is the plan to stay in Romania?

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
