Emmerdale made for unsettling viewing on Monday night after Marlon Dingle suffered a life-threatening stroke.
The happy-go-lucky pub chef was thrilled and clearly excited when his long-term partner Rhona Goskirk agreed to marry him.
But when Marlon rushed back home to find the engagement ring, he collapsed to the floor in dramatic fashion.
As the powerful scenes unfolded on screen fans were left triggered as they felt disturbed and worried for Woolpack chef Marlon.
Taking to Twitter, one upset viewer penned: “The story line for Marlon in #Emmerdale is so triggering omg.”
Meanwhile another fan revealed: “I turned off I can’t watch it too disturbing.”
“My heart goes out to anyone who’s either experienced a stroke or been affected by it. Outstanding acting by @markcharnock,” a third viewer shared.
As Marlon lay helpless on the floor, the villagers were left wondering where he got to as they waited to celebrate the recent engagement news.
But a concerned April thought it would be best to find out what her father was getting up to.
As April entered the home, she was horrified to see her dad laying on the floor unable to move or speak properly.
Feeling panicked, April quickly called the ambulance who quickly came to the home to rescue Marlon from his agony.
But although ITV were impressed with the believable scenes some were still upset that Marlon’s happiness was robbed due to his poor health.
Jumping back on Twitter again, fans shared their thoughts.
One person penned: “This is why we can’t have nice things #Emmerdale with everything going on in the world, why does every story have to be bad? Just once, it’d be nice to have a ‘and they all lived happily ever after’ moment.”
While another chimed: “One day the soaps will have a happy story line.”
Emmerdale producers worked closely with the Stroke Association stroke to portray the realities of what takes place for stroke victims.
Mark Charnock who plays Marlon said: “Working with Emmerdale‘s research team and the Stroke Association on this storyline has been a total eye-opener for me.
“We hear the word ‘stroke’ bandied around a great deal, but being confronted with the sheer weight of numbers in this country alone has been a shock.
