EastEnders favourite Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) returns to Walford next week.
Rainie (Tanya Franks) and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) rally together to convince Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) to attend his hospital appointment but he has other ideas and meets with Warren, who sells him more expensive supplements.
Callum is furious and tries to get Stuart to see sense but Stuart is having none of it.
Meanwhile, Rainie pesters Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) about Bernie’s whereabouts, worried she’s had the baby already.
With Rainie so stressed and upset, Callum encourages Stuart to go to the appointment for her.
Rainie is besides herself when the doctor reveals Stuart’s cancer has grown and he needs immediate treatment.
At home, Stuart stands by his holistic approach but their minds turns elsewhere when a heavily pregnant Bernie arrives.
Rainie is relieved to hear Bernie still plans to give them the baby but puts pressure on them to give her the rest of the money as soon as the baby is born.
Bernie questions Stuart’s supplements but Rainie and Stuart cover.
Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) later inadvertently tells Bernie about Stuart’s cancer so she marches back to the Highways but as she confronts them, her waters break.
As Bernie goes into labour, a guilty Rainie lies to her and tells her Stuart is beating his cancer.
At the hospital, Rainie tries to keep everyone calm but Bernie is relieved when Karen arrives.
The baby boy is born and after seeing how much Rainie and Stuart care for the baby, an emotional Bernie agrees to let them have the baby.
However when alone, Rainie confesses that Stuart is refusing treatment – she can’t let Bernadette give them the baby on a lie.
Will this change Bernie’s mind or will Rainie and Stuart finally be able to become a family?
Meanwhile, Stuart meets with Warren who continues his mission in discouraging Stuart from getting medical treatment.
Vi Highway shows up after hearing about her great grandson’s birth but a stunned Stuart warns her that she may not see him.
Rainie stares at a bottle of vodka, but is shocked by Vi entering. Rainie explains Stuart’s situation, leaving Vi determined to fix things.
