Netflix Bridgerton fans demand 'smut' as they fume over lack of sex in season 2

The Netflix smash hit Bridgerton finally hit screens today (March 25) with its second season, but fans have taken to Twitter to express their outrage at the lack of steamy sex scenes which featured heavily in season one.

The first series centred around the complicated relationship between Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Bassett, and with that came several raunchy scenes between the pair.

Fans will also remember that season one opened with the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony, with plenty on display as he had sex with opera singer Sienna up against a tree.

This time round, the season focuses on Anthony’s journey as he embarks on a quest to find his future wife, however, his path to love is a lot less steamy and features much less nudity.

Taking to Twitter, hundreds of fans banded together and expressed their outrage at the show’s new direction.

One user penned: “Where the f*** are the sex scenes in Season 2 of Bridgerton?”

Another wrote: “Wait. What?! There aren’t many sex scenes in Bridgerton season 2?! But…but…but…” followed by three crying emojis.

A third expressed how they were “no longer interested” in the show now that there was a distinctive lack in sex scenes.

And someone else said: “As much as I appreciate the lack of sex scenes to increase Anthony and Kate sexual tension I gotta go find me some smut fanfic.”

While many were clearly outraged, other users supported the choice to use tension as a way of building a relationship rather than sex.

One user explained: “Reviewers complaining about the lack of sex scenes in Bridgerton s2?? Tension will always be sexier than sex scenes!”

Another agreed and wrote: “I can’t believe some people actually watch shows like Bridgerton just for the sex scenes.”

Speaking about season two, Bridgerton showrunner Chris Van Dusen has defended the direction the latest season has chosen.

While the sex scenes were an integral part of Simon and Daphne’s story, the same can’t be said for the romance between Anthony and newcomer Kate, played by Simone Ashley.

The showrunner explained: “We’ve never done a sex scene for the sake of doing a sex scene – and I don’t think we ever will.”
