Coronation Street actress Kel Allen has quit her role as Laura Neelan in the popular ITV soap after two years and has already filmed her final scenes.
On Friday’s episode of Corrie, terminally ill Laura appeared to take the blame for the murder of her husband Rick and was escorted away by police for questioning.
Ex-soldier Gary Windass who actually committed the crime, looked on in amazement while Laura was taken away by officers.
Meanwhile, Laura’s daughter Kelly pleaded her mother’s innocence as she cried to the policemen to let her mother go.
Speaking candidly to The Sun, actress Kel expressed that she felt emotional filming her last scenes for the legendary soap.
She said: “Oh my god, it’s emotional. I get emotional and start filling up just thinking about it.
“What a way to go. When they asked me to come back for this final storyline I couldn’t believe it, it was too good to turn down.
“As an actor to get your teeth stuck into something so heartbreaking, dramatic and even with humour thrown in is just incredible.”
The star also shared that it was a dream come true to play the dynamic and emotionally charged character.
Laura’s decision to hand herself in to the police was in order to make sure her daughter is looked after well by Gary and his partner Maria Connor.
But there will be tears in store for Kelly when she hears the devastating news that her father is dead.
It has already been revealed that Rick’s dead body has been found at the building site of the new Weatherfield County FC ground with pictures showing former loan shark Gary looking very shifty as he filmed dramatic the new scenes.
Earlier this month actress Millie Gibson who plays Kelly was seen filming what is set to be her father Rick’s funeral at a church in Manchester alongside Gary and Maria.
But how will Kelly react when she finds out the truth regarding Gary and the killing of Rick. Will she decide to depart from her happy family set-up for good?
Kel’s final scenes will air later in the spring.
