Taylor Hawkins' heart was 'twice as heavy' as average size when he died

Taylor Hawkins’ heart weight was double the average weight of men in his age range at the time of his death on March 25, aged 50.

His heart is believed to have weighed “at least 600 grams” according to forensic experts who carried out an autopsy on the Foo Fighters drummer.

Taylor died at a luxury hotel in Bogota, Colombia, hours before the rock group were scheduled to appear on stage in front of thousands of fans at a gig.

Investigators have concluded the 50-year-old suffered a cardiovascular collapse after binging on a cocktail of drugs, respected Colombian news magazine Semana reported.

It also said authorities had confirmed to them the famed musician had overdosed on heroin mixed with antidepressants and benzodiazepines which are psychoactive drugs known as benzos.

The local Attorney General’s office had confirmed an initial autopsy had revealed traces of around 10 different drugs in Taylor’s urine, including opioids.

It also revealed that marijuana and antidepressants were also in his system at the time of his death.

The government did not mention any traces of cocaine in the statement following the autopsy but it had been claimed a “white cocaine-like” powder was discovered in his hotel room at the Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina.

Prior to his death, Hawkins had complained of chest pains ahead of the Foo Fighters show at the Estereo Picnic Festival in the region.

Despite the best efforts from first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He previously opened up on his battle with drugs that left him in a two-week coma back in 2001 during a trip to London.

Speaking to Kerrang, he said: “I was partying in London one night, and I mistakenly did something and it changed everything.

“I believed the bull***t myth of live hard and fast, die young.

“I’m not here to preach about not doing drugs, because I loved doing drugs, but I just got out of control for a while and it almost got me.”

The Foo Fighters have since postponed their upcoming shows as they grieve their late friend.
