Jada Pinkett Smith's 'terrifying' hair loss as Will Smith punches Chris Rock at Oscars

Will Smith is the talk of all of Hollywood after he punched Chris Rock at the Oscars, after the comedian host made a joke about Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Jada rocked up to the Oscars 2022 in a stunning emerald green gown with a skintight bodice and huge, ruched train, with statement earrings and her head shaved bald.

And her cropped hairstyle garnered attention from comedian Chris Rock, who compared her to GI Jane.

Will then got out of his seat in the audience, walked on stage and punched Chris in the face before screaming: “Leave my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”

Jada Pinkett Smith has spoken openly about her hair loss in the past, as she suffers from the autoimmune disorder alopecia.

It affects her hair follicles which in turn results in bald spots and hair loss.

The 50-year-old first spoke about it in 2018 in her Red Table Talk series.

She said it “wasn’t easy” to talk about, after fans asked her why she had been wearing turbans at the time.

Speaking of the “terrifying” ordeal, Jada said: “I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, ‘Oh my God, am I going bald?’

“It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear. That’s why I cut my hair, and why I continue to cut it.”

In December 2021, she said on Instagram she could “only laugh” about the situation, while also showing fans a bald patch on her head.

She said: “Y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden one day, look at this line right here. Look at that.”

Jada added: “It just showed up like that and this is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide. So I thought I’d just share it so y’all are not asking any questions.”

The actress previously had “little steroid injections” to try and remedy the hair loss, which “seemed to be helping, but not curing”.

Jada debuted her shaved head in 2021 and credited her daughter Willow, 21, for inspiring her decision.

She wrote on Instagram: “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go.

“But … my 50’s are bout to be divinely lit with this shed.”

She has since worn extravagant head pieces on red carpets, such as at the Critics Choice Awards earlier this year.

Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith and her shaved head, comparing her to GI Jane.

While Will Smith appeared to laugh at the joke, Jada remained straight-faced and looked unimpressed.

Moments later, Will got out of his seat and walked on stage before punching Chris and returning to his seat.

He could then be heard screaming: “Leave my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”

The night turned around for Will though, as he won his first Oscar for Best Actor for his role in King Richard moments later.

In his acceptance speech, Will said: “Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world.

“I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people and to be a river to my people. I know to do what we do you’ve got to be able to take abuse. You’ve got to be able to have people talk crazy about you. In this business you’ve got to be able to have people disrespecting you and you’ve got to smile and pretend that’s okay.”

Will then apologised and said “love will make you do crazy things”.

He added: “I hope the Academy invites me back.”
