Will Smith appeared to smack presenter Chris Rock in the face after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith at the Oscars 2022.
When Chris began presenting the award for Best Documentary Feature, he targeted Jada and joked she would be starring in the next G.I Joe.
The actress rolled her eyes while husband Will took it upon himself to storm the stage and hit the comedian for making a joke at the expense of his wife.
Many debated whether the incident was staged, however, reports quickly surfaced about their bitter history, suggesting the shocking reaction from Will was completely genuine.
Speaking on stage at the Dobey Theatre on Sunday night (March 27), Chris joked about Jada’s shaved head, saying: “Jada, I love you. G.I Jane 2, can’t wait to see it.”
The actress openly suffers with alopecia and was visibly displeased by the joke, rolling her eyes as it touched upon the sensitive subject.
As the screen cut back to Chris, Will could be seen storming up the stage at the 94th Academy Awards and whacked Chris in the face.
This isn’t the first time the 57-year-old has made a joke aimed at the couple.
When he hosted the prestigious awards in 2016, the Grown Ups star devoted a portion of his monologue to them.
After Will was snubbed for his performance in Concussion, Jada revealed she was boycotting the Oscars that year.
The host first took aim at Jada and quipped: “Jada got mad, said she’s not coming. Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”
The actor then moved on to Will and continued with: “You get mad. It’s not fair that Will was this good and didn’t get nominated. It’s also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West.”
Two years later, the pair had an awkward encounter online when Will wished his ex-wife, Sheree Zampino a happy birthday on his Instagram page.
Sharing a throwback snap of the pair and their son, Trey, Will penned: “Happy Bday, @shereezampino. #BestBabyMamaEver! 🙂 I Love You, Ree-Ree.”
Chris then commented: “Wow. You have a very understanding wife.”
The comment quickly went viral and made headlines because of his previous joke at the Oscars.
After winning the Best Actor gong for his role in King Richard, Will apologised to the Oscars and his fellow nominees regarding the incident, saying: “Love will make you do crazy things.”
