Will Smith and Jada have become ‘butt of joke’ in US due to ‘oversharing’ on sex lives

Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith have become the “butt of the joke” in the US as a result of “oversharing” about their sex lives, a commentator has claimed.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star became embroiled in controversy at last night’s (March 27) Oscars ceremony, when he stormed on stage to slap host Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about Jada’s hair.

Aiming a barb at Jada’s shaved head – an appearance resulting from her alopecia – Chris said: “Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see it.”

Smith appeared to laugh at the joke initially, before taking to the stage to hit the Madagascar star and yelling: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth.”

Providing context for British viewers about why Rock made the dig at the couple on GB News, Kinsey Schofield explained: “As an American, I have to tell you that Will and Jada Smith have become the butt of the joke here lately.

“Jada has a programme on Facebook called Red Table Talk, where her and her daughter, her mother and Will will sit there and talk about things like their sex lives and their open marriage.

“And I don’t think that people are used to commentary like that; celebrities being so open, especially when it’s not a typical lifestyle. And I think they’ve opened themselves up to a lot of criticism because they are oversharing.”

Will and Jada have denied speculation about their “open marriage” in the past, referring to each other as “life partners”, and separating once after an alleged disagreement over their daughter Willow’s singing career.

Will is one of the biggest names in US acting, having found fame starring in sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and going on to feature in Hollywood epics including Men In Black and The Pursuit of Happiness.

And host Eamonn Holmes asked Kinsey whether this success might have resulted in the actor developing a “sense of false security” that he’s “invincible”.

“Absolutely, that is exactly what it felt like watching,” the commentator replied.

“The way he moved so forcefully towards Chris Rock, jumping on a stage that wasn’t his. Jaden his son tweeted, ‘this is how we do it’, almost immediately afterwards as if he’s showing support towards his father.”

Shortly after the incident, Will was awarded with the award for best actor. And, taking to the stage for his speech, the star broke down in tears, addressing the insult and apologising for his actions.

But, Kinsey suggested that Will shouldn’t have been allowed to receive the award after his conduct, contrasting the incident with the Grammy’s decision to not allow Kanye West to perform after his outbursts online.

“This was a true real fight that happened live on television in front of millions of people,” she said.

“Will Smith actually goes on international television and assaults Chris Rock and then less than 20 minutes after that, got to stand on a stage and accept an award… That blows my mind, the hypocrisy in Hollywood.”
