Beyoncé and Jay Z in epic Grammys wardrobe blunder with Imagine Dragons backstage

Imagine Dragons had a wild night at the 2014 Grammy Awards, but their time at the award ceremony could have gone horribly wrong when they met Beyoncé and Jay Z.

The globally-loved indie pop band won Best Rock Performance at the annual awards show for their smash-hit single, Radioactive, which had just been released at the time.

They also sang the world-famous rock song at the event, an electric performance which saw them covered in glowing red ‘radioactive’ dust to match the mood of the dystopian single.

The Dragons had also graced the stage with multi-award winning US rapper Kendrick Lamar on the night, which saw them rub shoulders with Daft Punk.

However, they almost destroyed the premium outfits of Beyoncé and Jay Z, one of the most famous power-couples in the industry when they climbed off stage.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star before this year’s Grammys, Imagine Dragons recalled the memorable moment they met the titan duo backstage, and how they almost covered them in red dust.

Guitarist Daniel Sermon said: “Jay Z and Beyoncé, like meeting the two of them. They seemed to be like the most perfect human beings when we met them.”

His bandmate chimed in: “And we were covered in like ‘toxic’ red dust…” before Daniel went on: “from our Radioactive performance.”

They admitted: “We were just terrified we were going to ruin their outfits.”

Describing the Single Ladies singer’s lush outfit, Daniel added: “Beyoncé was wearing like a white gown with like Swarovski crystals all over it and we’re covered in red powder that for sure stains everything, like we can blow it off of us onto her.”

When asked what the 99 Problems rapper said to him, lead singer Dan proudly revealed Jay told him the band’s performance was his favourite of the night, but he quickly warned Beyoncé about the dust.

He was terrified of ruining the moment, though, and it turns out he’d accidentally stained Daft Punk with a savage coating of the dust just before.

Dan said: “It was a terrifying interaction because we had just got off performing with Kendrick doing Radioactive and Daft Punk was right in front of us, and they were all in white and I gave him a hug.

“I realised when he turned around he had a big red handprint and I was like ‘oh my gosh!’, and I turn and it’s Jay Z and Beyoncé.

“Beyoncé and Jay Z was like ‘that was great! I loved it!’. Jay Z said it was his favourite of the night, I must say. I tried to give him a little [fist bump] and Beyonce came over and I was like ‘No, I can’t touch you!'”

Guitarist Dan then quipped: “So you felt a little Radioactive..”.

This year’s Grammys will air Monday 4 April from Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
