Jeremy Vine’s talk show was forced off air this morning (4 April) after ITN productions suffered a significant power outage.
Staff at ITN received an email at 8:30 which informed them there had been “significant power outage” at the building in Gray’s Inn Road in central London.
As the daytime chat show was unable to air, Channel 5 instead showed the police documentary series Car Crime UK: Caught on Camera as well as re-runs of Million Pound Home.
Jeremy Vine took to his Twitter page and told fans of the show about the power shortage but still displayed hope that the first edition of the week would be back on screens soon.
He penned: “Power cut @ITNProductions so we are all in reception. Here’s hoping @JeremyVineOn5 is with you at 0915!!”
The tweet was accompanied by a picture of staff at the ITN studios in London all gathered working in the reception area.
Several fans of the show weren’t happy with news coming from Twitter.
One user said: “You would have thought @FiveUK would’ve advised viewers on the programme change.”
Another wrote: “Why did I have to come on Twitter to find this out? There should have been an update on Channel 5!”
Other users simply expressed their sadness at the show being unable to air, with one saying: “Missing you Jeremy and Storm!! Hope you’re all ok for tomorrow.”
It was later confirmed that the show won’t be back on air until Tuesday.
Channel 5 issued a statement and said: “Due to a major power outage Channel 5 is unable to broadcast Jeremy Vine this morning. We apologise for the change in today’s schedules.”
The talk show host spoke out again and said: “Sorry to say, we didn’t make it to air today. Questions will be asked of the emergency generator, and the emergency backup generator.”
The 56-year-old then explained that it was “nice to get some quality catch-up time” with his co-presenter Storm Huntley.
