Sally Nugent caused a stir at Ladies Day by suggesting ITV’s Ed Chamberlin could replace Dan Walker on BBC Breakfast.
Taking to Instagram, the 50-year-old shared a snap of herself and presenter Ed enjoying a sunny day at the Aintree races.
Sally wowed in a brown polka dot midi dress while Ed looked incredibly dapper in a three-piece navy suit.
The BBC Breakfast presenter sent her followers into a frenzy as she captioned the post: “Oh hello. What are you doing this summer? @edchamberlin” which she followed up with a wink emoji.
Fans were quick to point out what Sally was jokingly suggesting, with one user saying: “Ed’s doing breakfast!”, while another wrote: “Will Big Ed be sitting next to you in the mornings?”
While Ed simply responded with a flushed emoji, Sally’s current co-host Dan also got involved in the light-hearted banter and said: “Hold on a minute!” followed by several laughing emojis.
The 45-year-old presenter also took to his Twitter and shared a picture of himself and Sally at the races.
In view of his 750k followers, Dan wrote alongside the snap: “What a gorgeous day at Aintree with my professional partner.”
Dan revealed on Monday (April 4) that he has quit his role as BBC Breakfast anchor after six years on the show.
The 45-year-old has traded in the red sofa and will work for Channel 5’s flagship news bulletin 5 news.
Confirming the news in a video shared on the Channel 5 Twitter account, Dan said he was “really excited” about the move but admitted it was a “massive decision” for him to ditch BBC Breakfast.
Since the news was announced, rumours have begun circulating about who could take over from Dan, with Sally now adding to the speculation.
Good Morning Britain star Laura Tobin is rumoured amongst those in the running and could be set to switch channels, having worked for ITV since 2012.
Bookies have Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones and Dan’s Strictly Come Dancing co-star AJ Odudu as current favourites to be offered the position, while Ladbrokes have Laura to join at a 6/1.
