Lisa Faulkner admits she and John Torode 'don't separate work and home life on TV'

Former EastEnders star Lisa Faulkner has explained there is no tension when it comes to working with her husband, John Torode.

The actress, 50, has appeared alongside her husband on John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen since 2019 but admits the pair don’t separate their work and home life balance.

While the pair may have started working together when Lisa won Celebrity MasterChef back in 2010, they tied the knot in 2019 during an intimate ceremony at Aynhoe Park in Banbury, Oxfordshire.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star about Weekend Kitchen, Lisa explained: “We don’t separate it on set, it’s just like we’re cooking in our kitchen.

“I think that’s what is really funny, when we’re on set cooking, we may as well be in our kitchen at home.”

She continued: “Anyone that comes to our kitchen at home says ‘Oh my God’ if they’ve watched the show, they say ‘it’s just like being at your house.

“We just rub along nicely in the kitchen together, it’s fun,” Lisa said before adding: “It’s hard because we shoot quite a few shows in one day but we must love doing it, they just let us go, they say ‘Right, there’s the stuff if you just want to plod through’.”

The former Holby City star went on to say: “We just look at what we’re cooking and then we just go for it, they just let us go which is lovely.”

But it wasn’t a difficult decision to bring their marital life onto the screen, with Lisa saying: “It was just one of those things people asked us to do.

“I said ‘Absolutely, I’d love to do a cooking show with John’, as long as it was authentic and not as though it was in a studio, we wanted to do it like we were at home.

“Then lockdown happened and we were at home cooking, I think it then made the show even more like our show.

“We have such a great team on that show, the producers, it’s a really small group of people but they’re brilliant and we love working with them – that makes it like another family atmosphere.”

Lisa appeared in front of guests at The Ideal Home Show in partnership with NatWest at Olympia in London. Tickets and information for the 2023 event are available here.
