BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker set to 'rake in £1.5m for Channel 5 move' after exit news

BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker has made the announcement that he was going to be leaving the BBC to move over to Channel 5.

Dan, 45, has been presenting on the BBC for six years and revealed on social media that he was going to be making the move soon, but wasn’t “motivated by money”.

On Tuesday, he told BBC viewers: “I’ve never ever been motivated by money in any job that I’ve ever taken.”

However, according to The Sun, Dan is set to rake in a whopping £1.5m for the move, in comparison to his £300k salary at the BBC.

The publication claims that Dan will host the news at 5pm four days a week and will get six hours a year of prime-time shows.

He will be replacing Sian Williams as the Channel 5 news anchor.

A source said: “The details have yet to be finalised but could include a quiz show or a programme in the style of Susan Calman’s Grand Days Out.”

Dan could make more money by stepping in for presenter Jeremy Vine when he goes on holiday away from his morning talk show.

Daily Star has contacted a representative for Dan Walker for comment, whilst a spokesperson for Channel 5 declined to respond.

Dan left viewers stunned as he made the huge announcement earlier this week, issuing a statement to reveal the big news.

He said: “I can’t wait to get stuck into the daily news show, but I am also excited about making some great new TV for Channel 5.

“I love their ideas and creativity and it’s rare to get an opportunity like this where paths and ambitions meet.

“The chance to do something different was too good to turn down.”

Dan also added that the new role will see him present a “whole host of new programmes across the channel”.
