EastEnders' Cheryl Fergison, 56, insists toyboy husband, 35, isn't a gold-digger

Former EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison has dismissed claims her toyboy husband Yassine el Jamouni is a “gold-digger”.

Cheryl 56, wed the shop assistant, 35, back in 2011 but many people have cast doubt on whether her hubby genuinely cares about her.

But the Heather Trott actress, who met her Moroccan husband online in 2010, claims doubters are sexist and wouldn’t question Mick Jagger, 78, for marrying ballerina Melanie Hamrick, 35.

She told The Mirror: “The world has become so cynical. People think it’s got to be a con, it’s got to be a problem. But I say, “It hasn’t got to be anything. Just stop it!

“It seems to be quite cool for the men, like Mick Jagger, to date younger. And it seems okay for them to have someone else two years later.

“Well we don’t care. It really is absolutely water off a duck’s back to us now. I just feel sorry for them, that they need to criticise our life.”

After they began chatting, Cheryl immediately hit it off with her second husband and soon jetted out to his hometown of Agadir, before they tied the knot the following June.

She previously told how she didn’t reveal her identity or what she looked like for five months after the pair began chatting.

The soap star told on Loose Women in 2017 she enjoyed an “old-fashioned” courtship with her toyboy.

She said: ‘We met online and wrote to one another on the computer and spoke on the computer. It was very old-fashioned.

‘”He didn’t know what I did for a living. I didn’t show him my picture. It was five months of chat before we met each other.

“I saw him and it was like “ping”. I knew he was the man I was going to marry and I had been married once before.”

Cheryl addressed their age gap, stating that “age doesn’t matter” and “no one blinks when a man does it”.

“Thank goodness we’re not all the same. I think do whatever you are comfortable with.”

Panelist Nadia Sawalha asked Cheryl if she had felt “worried” about meeting Yassine at the time?’ – but the actress insisted she was dead set on meeting him.

She said: “I know people could end up looking like Princess Fiona from Shrek or could get catfished. But in life, I think you have to take a chance.

“If it doesn’t work out and if you fall on your backside, pick yourself up and dust yourself off. Do what you want and don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t.”
