BBC Breakfast 'hits new low' as viewers slam bottomless brunch viral video segment

BBC Breakfast viewers are not happy with the news content covered during the latest edition of the morning show.

Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty were back on our screens on Thursday (April 21) to wake up the nation with the headlines from around the world.

The pair later went on to discuss a viral video which has taken the internet by storm showing the moment a woman gets her head stuck in a sofa after an Easter Sunday bottomless brunch ended in a day to remember.

Julie Jackson, 47, was celebrating her birthday with some pals in a Prosecco fulled brunch when her friend Lindsey Clark hilariously got stuck head first behind a sofa with her legs in the air.

Staff at the restaurant were forced to help Lindsey and she eventually returned to her seat after 15 minutes.

Introducing the segment, Charlie said: “Maybe you’ve been going out, maybe you’ve been enjoying eating out somewhere or maybe something called Bottomless Brunch is something you’re more familiar.

“The idea of it is you can eat a lot and drink quite a bit aswell. Maybe some form of celebration for a friend’s birthday and you’d hope it would all go swimmingly and lovely.

Naga added:”But sometimes it doesn’t. Like this.”

“So this is a woman who got stuck behind a sofa and when we say she got stuck, she got stuck. It took around 15 minutes to help her back on the sofa.

“Her friend’s filmed it, laughed, posted it online and it has been seen many many times.

“This is what happened to Lindsey Clark who has gone back to the scene for the first time since become quite the internet sensation.”

Naga and Charlie then went live to roving reporter Alison Freeman who was at TwelveTwentyFive in North Shields and spoke to Lindsey about the viral video.

However, fans were less than impressed with the news story appearing on Breakfast.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “What on earth have I just watched? Woman stuck in booth is amusing but enough for a 15 min live? Dragging out pointless questions., seems like time filling to distract to me.”

Another added: “Fifteen minutes spent on a woman stuck behind a seat. Reporter sent to interview said woman live. Truly dumbed down BBC.”

A third person posted: “BBC breakfast doing a whole report on a woman who got stuck behind a sofa. Good grief.”

While a fourth social media user said: “Well BBC Breakfast this is a new low for a news story. I mean, I get the lighter side of the news and all that but there’s only so long that you can drag out a segment on a woman getting stuck behind a sofa in a bar.”
