Back in 2006, a brand new ITV family drama began which would become hugely popular and last for an impressive seven series.
Wild At Heart was about the Trevanion family from Bristol, who ended up relocating to a South African game reserve for wild animals, Leopards Den.
Set against the stunning scenery of the South African bush, the family’s adventures and struggles in their new home, combined with a menagerie of scene stealing animals, made the series a family favourite.
As 26th April would have been actor Warren Clarke’s birthday, Daily Star Online has taken a look at where the cast are now…
Stephen Tompkinson – Danny Trevanion
As veterinary surgeon Danny, Stephen was at the centre of the show for its entire run. He was nominated for several awards for his role.
His biggest role in recent years was on another ITV drama, as detective Alan Banks in crime drama DCI Banks from 2010 to 2016.
He has appeared on stage in Spamalot, White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, A Christmas Carol, and Art.
He has also starred in Sky sitcom Trollied and Ballykissangel.
Stephen got engaged to his Ballykissangel co-star Dervla Kirwan in 1998, but eventually called the wedding off after four years together.
He told the Mirror at the time: “The split between Dervla and I was not a sudden thing – I suppose you could say it had been on the cards for a while.
“We are both consummately professional actors, and we have decided to put our careers first.
“There is still a lot of love between us. But I’m afraid our break-up looks pretty permanent.”
Amanda Holden – Sarah Trevanion
Danny’s headstrong second wife was the one who suggested the family make a new start in South Africa. Sadly, she died when the family attempted to save their pet cheetah from a bushfire in series three.
Amanda is now a popular fixture on the BGT judging panel, having been there for 10 years.
She also co-hosts the Heart Radio breakfast show with Jamie Theakston.
Deon Stewardson – Anders Du Plessis
‘Dup’ was a gruff Afrikaner with a big heart who became the Trevanions’ business partner.
Deon played Dup for the entire run, and sadly died in 2017, having taken his own life at the age of 66.
He was found dead in the bathroom of a Graaff-Reinet apartment the previous afternoon, with police confirming it as suicide.
Deon left behind his partner Marianne and two sons.
Lucy-Jo Hudson – Rosie Trevanion
Danny’s daughter arrived at Leopard’s Den as a disgruntled teen, but eventually helped run the place. She also ended up marrying Max.
Lucy-Jo had previously played the doomed Katy Harris on Coronation Street, and after Wild At Heart she appeared in Doctors, winning a British Soap Award as Villain of the Year.
She is now a regular on Hollyoaks as fan favourite Donna-Marie Quinn, having first joined the show in 2018.
Lucy-Jo shares a daughter with her Corrie ex Alan Halsall, who she had a public spat with on social media after he hit out at her and her new partner Lewis on social media, saying: “You’re welcome to keep the lying cheating one and call her your own! But not my daughter.”
Alan later said in an interview: “There’s always going to be ups and downs with a blended family.
“So long as Sienna comes first in all of it, that’s all that matters. Sienna’s got her mum and her dad, and she’s also got Lewis and Tisha.”
Hayley Mills – Caroline Du Plessis
Sarah’s difficult mother Caroline arrived in series two and stayed til the end. marrying Dup along the way.
The daughter of John Mills and Mary Hayley Bell, Hayley was the biggest name among the cast, having been a child star in films including the original Parent Trap.
In 2008 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and went through surgery and chemotherapy, but abandoned it due to severe side effects. In 2012, she shared that she has fully recovered.
Hayley has appeared in Midsomer Murders, Moving On, and Pitching In in recent years as well as some stage appearances. She is married to Dynasty actor Maxwell Caulfield.
Thapelo Mokoena – Cedric Fatani
Dup’s sidekick Cedric was a bit of a daydreamer but eventually got himself together, opening up how own bar.
Since Wild At Heart, he appeared in 2013 film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom opposite Idris Elba, and now owns his own production company.
He’s also starred in TV series Trackers and Bulletproof.
Warren Clarke – Robert Trevanion
Danny’s estranged father joined the show in series six.
Actor Warren was best known for his beloved role in police drama Dalziel and Pascoe and his role in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange.
He died in 2014, aged 67 and was penniless at the time of his death, with the Mirror reporting he left a gross estate of £13,056.
After his outstanding affairs were settled, this was reduced to a figure of nil.
Dawn Steele – Alice Trevanion
Vet Alice helped to heal widower Danny’s broken heart, eventually marrying him.
Dawn joined the show in series four and stayed til the end. She was previously well known for roles in Sea of Souls and Monarch of the Glen.
Since Wild At Heart, Dawn appeared in Scottish soap River City, ITV drama Liar and in various stage productions.
In 2019, she joined Holby City as Ange Godard, staying until the final episode.
Nomsa Xaba – Nomsa Nguni
Kind hearted Nomsa kept the house running and was a confidant to everybody.
South African actress Nomsa played her namesake for the show’s entire run, and according to IMDB she has only had one on screen role since then.
