Adrian Chiles reveals he's developed 'feelings towards spoons' after realisation

TV and radio star Adrian Chiles has confessed he has “feelings” for spoons.

The broadcaster has started collecting them like “notches on my bedpost”.

Chiles, 55, got the bizarre bug after reading an article about a restaurant critic’s search for the perfect spoon.

He said: “At first glance, this was a bit random, even for me but before long I was with him all the way.

“I was disappointed to see I have no fewer than 17 wooden spoons.”

Chiles announced his secret love on his BBC Radio 5 Live show.

He added: “Sorting through them, I realised I do have a favourite.

“It’s more of a spatula than a spoon, but it suits me very well. I had always looked out for it without knowing I was doing so and felt a twinge of disappointment if it didn’t come to hand.

“If ever I lost it for good, I now understood, I would miss it forever, I have started getting feelings for my spoons.”

Broaching the subject for his BBC radio show, Adrian was dismissed before, finally, receiving the spoon-themed respect he so sorely deserved, when people began to share ‘moving’ stories about their cutlery.

“Not only is Adrian Chiles operating on a different astral plane from the rest of us, he’s also spot on,” someone tweeted, sharing the article. “I do have a favourite wooden spoon, one of many,” added a second.

A third added: “I would very much like a tv show where Adrian Chiles spends time picking a favourite thing from a selection of his things – spoons, jackets, hangers, pens. I would watch anything,” while a fourth dubbed him a “spoon lothario.”

Adrian also raised eyebrows recently by admitting he has a urinal in his flat and encouraged others to do the same.

The presenter, 55, revealed the urinal has ‘changed [his] life’.

The Former Strictly Come Dancing star insisted that a private urinal is a solution to many domestic issues, including men leaving the seat up or having a poor aim.

However, not everyone sees Adrian’s idea for the genius he believes it to be, as he admits some people have retched at the sight of it.

Adrian made the proud admission in The Guardian, where he wrote a column inspired by Ryan Reynolds gifting Rob McElhenney a urinal in the Wrexham FC grounds for his birthday.

He wrote that he is ‘very proud’ of the urinal and is ‘a great enthusiast for urinals in the home.’
