Jennifer Grey reveals secret apology from 'tearful' Patrick Swayze on Dirty Dancing set

Jennifer Grey has revealed she got a tearful apology from her late co-star Patrick Swayze on the set of Dancing Dancing.

The actress, 62, admitted she didn’t want to work with Swayze as she previously had an unfortunate experience working with him on the 1984 film, Red Dawn.

However, the Hollywood hunk decided to make amends with Jennifer before shooting the pair’s iconic 1987 dancing flick, Dirty Dancing.

The romance drama saw Grey play teen Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman, who meets a dance instructor played by Swayze in the summer of 63.

Jennifer recalled the emotional moment Swazye had “tears in his eyes” as he apologised to her during a screen test.

Grey spoke about the special moment on The View, where discussed working with the late actor, who tragically passed away from pancreatic cancer aged 57 in 2009.

Jennifer said she initially didn’t want to work with Swayze again as she had disliked his “macho” and prank-loving antics on the set of Red Dawn.

It meant she was hesitant to work with him again on Dirty Dancing, after finding out he was being thought of for the role of Johnny Castle.

She said: “Patrick was playing pranks on me and everybody. It was just, like, macho, and I just couldn’t take it. I was just like, ‘Please, this guy, that’s enough with him.'”

However, he later made things right with Jennifer and took her into the hallway to tell her how sorry he was.

Jennifer said: “He pulled me down the hall and said to me, “I love you, I love you, and I’m so sorry. And I know you don’t want me to do the movie.”

She went on: “And he got the tears in his eyes. And I got the tears in my eyes — not for the same reason. I was like, ‘Oh, this guy’s working me’.

“And he goes, “We could kill it — we could kill it if we did this.” she added.

Jennifer quickly realised she had a special on-screen chemistry with the Ghost star, which was key in making the film so iconic.

Grey said: “We go in there and he takes me in his arms and I was like, “Oh, boy. I’m done.”
