Gogglebox's Lee Riley admits he had to dodge stars at BAFTAs after slating them

Gogglebox star Lee Riley has confessed to avoiding certain celebrities at the BAFTA TV awards due to previously slagging them off while on the popular Channel 4 show.

The TV personality was in good spirits as he attended the glitzy award ceremony alongside his fellow cast members in London on Sunday night (May 8).

And things were certainly looking up for the Gogglebox crew when they won the award for best Reality Constructed and Factual.

But during the backstage winners press conference, Lee told Daily Star and other publications that he had to “duck and dive” in order to avoid some celebs on the red carpet.

When asked who they were most looking forward to seeing at the event, Lee and his castmate Mica Ven wanted to ensure they didn’t bump into anyone they previously “slagged off” while dishing out their honest critiques on Gogglebox.

Lee said: “I have ducked and dived a few times.”

However the Gogglebox favourite didn’t specify who exactly he didn’t want to see at the star studded event.

But when it came to discussing his sofa co-star Jenny Newby, outspoken Lee also mentioned that she refuses to go outside without makeup on since appearing on the hit TV show.

Lee said: “Jenny would never go out without makeup after we started Gogglebox.

“Yeah, she would never. She would always go out without makeup before.”

Gogglebox has been entertaining the nation since it first began in 2013.

The popular programme, which sees ordinary people discuss TV shows which aired during the week, has been the recipient of several awards over the years, including the National Television Award for Best Factual Entertainment in 2018.

Despite receiving awards for their blunt and honest critiques on the show, programme producer Stephen Lambert seemed to cause quite the stir with his acceptance speech.

Making reference to Channel 4’s privatisation, the producer said: “Gogglebox might have ended when it started nine years ago because it got quite a modest audience.

“But a publicly owned, risk-taking Channel Four believed in it and stuck with it.”

However viewers noticed that some of Stephen’s views were cut from the programme and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One person wrote: “BAFTAS the way the editing is on this is appalling, either put it on later or don’t show it at all … Why was the Gogglebox speech cut?! SORT IT OUT.”

While another fumed: ”Well that speech about Channel 4 was clearly cut. Would have been nice to hear what they said!”
