EastEnders fans horrified as Ben Mitchell attacks nephew Peter Beale in devasting twist

EastEnders bad boy Ben Mitchell brutally attacked his own nephew Peter Beale with a crowbar in a case of mistaken identity during the latest edition of the BBC soap

Viewers witnessed Ben encounter an unknown man who was laughing at the defaced poster of his husband Callum Highway.

After Lewis calmed the situation down and offered to take Ben off for drinks, Phil Mitchell’s son later spotted someone he thought was the same guy and attacked him.

Viewers saw Ben hide behind his hood and beat and kick him as he lay on the floor.

The episode came to a dramatic end when he turned the limp, bloodied body over and realised his victim was in fact Peter.

Shocked fans took to social media to react to the horrifying revelation.

“Omg Ben what the f**k have you done!!!,” blasted one viewer.

A second said: “Ben’s is like a boiling pot of rage he really needs to learn how to keep his anger in check which unfortunately he cannot learn to control half the time.”

While a third expressed their disappointment over Ben’s behaviour and how its affecting his relationship with Callum

“It’s so sad what #EastEnders have done to #Ballum. They were such an exciting couple in 2019 and had so much potential. And it’s been destroyed by the constant misery and angst, and a ridiculous desire to keep Ben in this never ending repetitive cycle. It’s exhausting.”

Ben will face further anguish as BBC bosses confirm he is set for the soap’s first male rape storyline.

In upcoming scenes, Ben finds solace in bartender Lewis Butler over drinks at Ruby’s following the reaction to his attack on Peter.

During the evening out on the town, and in a drunken state, Ben comes clean to Lewis about the attack.

Diehard fans will know that these scenes set the foundation for Ben to be raped by Lewis.

EastEnders is working with various charities in the likes of Survivors UK to make sure the issue of male rape is covered sensitively.

“I think we’ve been able to really strive to tell the most truthful account we can, and I hope we can raise awareness and understanding on a topic that is rarely covered”, actor Max Bowden said about the plot.

He added: “I’m honoured to be given this opportunity to tell such an important story.”

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
