Rochelle Humes has said “leave Peter Andre alone” following past comments made by Rebekah Vardy which were brought up during the Wagatha Christie trial about his manhood.
On the latest episode of This Morning (May 11), Rochelle and her fellow presenter Phillip Schofield discussed the court battle between WAGs Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney which kicked off earlier in the week.
Alongside contributors Matthew Wright and Giles Brandreth, the group discussed Rebekah’s 2004 News of the World interview in which she previously claimed the Mysterious Girl singer was “hung like a small chipolata”.
The comments resurfaced due to questions posed by Coleen’s barrister David Sherborne during proceedings.
On the ITV programme, Rochelle and Phil described speculation about Peter in wake of the comments as “unfair” and asked for him to be “left alone”.
As Matthew Wright described the headline-making revelations about Peter as a “horrible, horrible, episode”, Phil said: “I thought that was really unfair.”
Revealing she and Phil had discussed it prior to the show, Rochelle added: “We are with you.”
Phil went on to describe the Wagatha Christie trial as “unseemly”.
Concluding discussion about the trial, Rochelle said: “We understand the principle of how it started and you can understand how hurtful that is, however, to make it this far, it just seems all a little bit [much].”
She later added: “And can we just leave Peter Andre alone?”
Questioned about her previous comments about Peter during the trial, Rebekah said she “deeply regretted” the interview and claimed she was “forced into the situation by her ex-husband”.
She said: “This is something I deeply regret and something that is very much part of my past. It is not nice to read. But I was in a terrible, terrible relationship.
“The consequences of not doing something were far worse than doing it. It is horrible.”
Peter Andre has also since responded to the resurfaced claims.
Posting to Instagram on Wednesday (May 11), the dad-of-four said: “Do you know how hard it is to keep biting my lip on situations?
“But the way I look at it, most people saw in the jungle how an acorn turned into an oak so I think I’m ok.
“At least she has now admitted it wasn’t true and was forced to say it.”
The Wagatha Christie trial spawned from a social media post shared by Coleen in October 2019, in which she claimed Rebekah’s Instagram account was responsible for leaking stories about her to the press.
Rebekah has strongly denied responsibility for the leak and the trial continues.
