ITV in major weekend shake-up as In For a Penny and Romeo and Duet cancelled

ITV’s Saturday night schedule has undergone a major shake-up this week – as two huge shows were yanked off air.

Stephen Mulhern’s popular gameshow In For A Penny which usually airs at 6pm on Saturday has been cancelled, along with Oti Mabuse’s dating programme Romeo And Duet which airs at 7pm.

Instead, the channel aired the FA Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool, which also aired on BBC.

But due to the drastic change, some fans were evidently perplexed and headed straight to Twitter to find out what was going on.

One fan asked: “Where Is in for a penny, it’s the mrs birthday she was looking forward to it.”

Another fan tweeted Stephen directly and wrote: “Hi Stephen what is going on I see that there is no in for a penny on tonight because of the football.”

Despite the shake-up, Britain’s Got Talent and The 1% Club will be staying in their original time slots.

Simon Cowell’s popular talent show will return to screens at 8pm following the Lee Mack quizzing show at 9.30pm.

After The 1% Club has aired, the ITV News will then broadcast at 10.20pm with classic 80s chick flick Pretty Woman seeing the channel through to the early hours of their programme scheduling.

Although In For A Penny has been on TV for quite some time, ITV’s Romeo and Duet first kicked off in April, leaving several fans divided regarding the show’s format.

The programme focuses on singletons looking for love while they stand on a balcony serenaded by love matches that they can hear, but not see.

Although the show promises viewers fun, light-hearted entertainment, some Twitter users have described the programme as “absolute nonsense” with one person on Twitter writing: “I had high hopes for this because I love Oti, but she really should’ve said no to this show.”

Last week, talented singer Lucy Davey sang her heart out on the weekend show and impressed viewers with her amazing vocals.

Talking about the show, she said: “I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I’m always encouraging my students to put themselves forward and experience new challenges, so why not lead by example.”
