Casualty fans go wild as Connie Beauchamp star confirms return to hit BBC soap

Casualty star Amanda Mealing has returned to the BBC medical soap in a pretty epic way, the broadcaster has confirmed.

The actress made her name as Connie Beauchamp in both Casualty and Holby City until she made the decision to leave Casualty in 2021 and Holby back in 2019.

But rather than taking her place in front of the cameras again, Amanda is instead acting as director for a special episode of Casualty.

The official BBC Casualty account confirmed the news by sharing various snaps of Amanda behind-the-scenes, rocking a pair of white trousers and a navy dotted cardigan, along with a casual pair of red trainers.

With a pair of chunky headphones over her brunette waves, Amanda could be seen holding a walkie-talkie as she peered at a screen to analyse what was happening on set.

The BBC announced: “The Queen of Casualty is back. Amanda Mealing returned to Holby ED to direct this week’s episode… and what an episode it is!”

The account further teased on its Instagram Stories: “Guess who directed this week’s episode…”

Amanda could then be seen posing with her hands on her hips for a picture behind a clapper board bearing the name of the soap and episode number.

She wore a blue BBC lanyard to announce her official position on the set, and could be seen giving her co-stars various instructions behind the cameras.

But frenzied fans are simply desperate to see her reprise her role as Connie, and took to the comments section to make their thoughts known.

One posted: “That’s great and all but when is Connie back?!”

The star wowed fans with her return

“Please can Connie come back I was utterly shocked she didn’t appear in the last few episodes of Holby especially as she was so iconic but hoping she comes back to the ED soon,” another begged.

As a third fan echoed: “Wish she would come back Connie, you are needed back!”

Someone else giggled: “Hope she returns, as her department is kinda dysfunctional [in my opinion].”

This is the first time Amanda has directed an episode of Casualty since 2018, when she directed two – and before that it was 2016 when she made her debut.

She has also directed three episodes of Coronation Street in 2021, and an episode of CBBC hit show The Dumping Ground in 2019.
