Johnny Depp previously admitted he cut tip of his own finger off, court hears

A new witness for Amber Heard has dropped a bombshell claim in court claiming actor Johnny Depp admitted to cutting off his own finger.

Depp, 58, has previously testified that his former wife, 36, had “thrown a vodka bottle at me and took my finger off” – something the Aquaman actress denies.

Raquel Pennington, a witness for Amber Heard, told the court on Wednesday how Johnny Depp told her that he had injured the tip of his finger himself during an infamous March 2015 incident in Australia.

Giving her pre-recorded deposition via video link in Virginia’s Fairfax County Courthouse, Ms Pennington claimed Mr Depp told her he had cut the tip of his finger off himself.

She gave a definitive “yes” when asked if Mr Depp caused the injuries to his finger himself.

She told the court: “He said – I don’t remember how he said he cut the tip of his finger off but when the nurse was dressing it, I wanted to see it – I also had a very small injury – and I continued to see it [Depp’s injury] throughout its healing process.

“But I don’t remember how he told me how he cut it off,” she added.

She was then asked if she remembered the actor telling her he had cut it off himself, to which she quickly answered: “Yes”.

The witness also explained how she and Ms Heard no longer speak – claiming they grew apart – but are “not enemies”.

During parts of her testimony, Ms Pennington grew emotional and teary as she looked at pictures of her one-time close friend’s alleged injuries.

Elsewhere in her evidence, Ms Pennington claimed there “were many times I saw injuries” on Ms Heard, and denied suggestions she and the actress staged any abuse.

Mum-of-one Amber previously testified that she thought she was going to die when Mr Depp allegedly headbutted her and tried to suffocate her with a pillow the night before her television appearance.

Ms Heard claimed the alleged attack from her then-husband left her with two black eyes, what she thought was a broken nose and a busted lip.

Depp denies these claims.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is suing Heard for alleged defamation over an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, in which she stated she was a victim of domestic abuse.
