Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has paid a sweet tribute to a returning icon as he makes his way back to the cobbles.
The actor, who plays George Shuttleworth on the ITV soap, reached out to his co-star Liam McCheyne on Twitter as he returns to his role as Sean Tully’s son Dylan.
Taking to the social media site this week, Tony wrote: “Hey @LiamMcCheyne! What a great first day at @itvcorrie today. Loved doing our scenes together. Here’s to many more.”
He went on to joke: “Hope you weren’t too sick after your SIX bacon butties in Roy’s Rolls. You’ve got some catching up to do though. I once ate 18 sausages in a scene in Benidorm!”
Liam quickly replied to the soap star, replying: “Thanks so much @TonyMaudsley1 had an amazing day!”
He tagged in other co-stars including Antony Cotton, Gareth Pierce, Sue Cleave and Millie Gibson in his post, adding: “Lovely working with you today, see you all soon.”
Sue Cleaver, best known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw, was quick to reply too, posting a row of kissy emojis as a response to Liam’s post.
And Benidorm director Duncan Foster couldn’t help chipping in: “Err when I tell the story it’s 40 [sausages]…”
It comes shortly after Liam confirmed he’d be returning as Dylan, snapping a picture of his scripts as he shared his excitement at coming back to the street.
He wrote earlier this year: “BIG NEWS!!!!
“Can’t wait and super excited to get back to work @itvcorrie on May 17th.
“Hopefully many memories to come. Have a good weekend everyone, see you soon [thumbs up emojis].”
His fans soon poured into the comments section to congratulate him, with one gushing: “Great! About time!”
Another wrote: “Would love a signed script once they have been shown on screen!”
Antony Cotton has also teased what the future could look like for Sean and Dylan, telling Daily Star: “I’ve got a busy year ahead – my son is coming back. And we had a pandemic so everything changed for everybody and Coronation Street was no different, so that’s going to happen and there may be some kind of new friendship/relationship that happens.”
Speaking of Dylan’s mum Violet returning, he added: “I couldn’t possibly say anything to do with that and I genuinely have no idea how that may map out.
“Things change all the time and it all depends on how it maps out.
“What we’ve always done at Coronation Street is see how storylines evolve naturally. All I know is Dylan is around that’s all I know.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
