Simon Cowell thinks the Muppets are real.
The telly tycoon claims when he watches Kermit and Miss Piggy, he believes they are proper talking animals.
Simon said: ‘‘With puppets, you have to believe that they are real.
‘‘I don’t watch the Muppets thinking someone has got their hand up the frog. I believe that Kermit is real.”
Cowell, 62, speaks about his love for the Muppets on Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday, when two sets of puppeteers audition.
The Handersons and Bee And Lotte try their best to impress the panel with their comedy acts.
When fellow judge Amanda Holden, 51, reveals she once “met” puppet Elmo, Simon refuses to listen in case she spills the beans about the character being operated with hands and wires.
Co-judge Alesha Dixon, 43, explains: ‘‘We don’t wanna kill the magic.”
Meanwhile, Amanda, 51, tells the panel how she used to be a mini Lord Sugar when she was little. She said: “I used to do puppet shows in my back garden.
“I’d throw a blanket over the swing and charge 5p to people to go and see it.”
Comedian Jon Courtenay, who won the competition in 2020, also appears on this weekend’s show, which airs at 8pm on ITV. He revealed: “I wrote a bespoke song.”
It comes after Simon laughed off claims he would take his two pups along on his stag do after he was rumoured to be determined to bring his beloved Yorkshire terriers, Squiddly and Diddly, along to a Las Vegas bash.
He was left giggling at the suggestion, explaining: “That is the best story I have heard… that I am taking my dogs on a stag party? It is like where (would we go)?”
Laughing uncontrollably he added: “I do not know whether they would like it?
“I do not know what you would do with dogs at a bachelor party?”
A pal of Simon’s added: “Sure it made Simon laugh, but it was really ridiculous.
“Firstly he would not subject his beloved pets to busy restaurants, bustling clubs or parties, but secondly the US has strict policies on what animals can enter premises. It is standard for service dogs only to be permitted inside most venues. Whether someone is a celebrity or not is irrelevant. There are no exceptions.
“Simon has laughed about so many people asking him about the dogs being with him, but calls it a ‘brilliantly silly idea.'”
