The Great British Bake Off's Prue Leith is penning a new cookbook – about toast

The Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith Pue Leith is writing a cookbook… about how to enjoy toast.

Fans will be able to get tips from the Bake Off judge, 82, on the best ways to jazz up the simple staple.

Dame Prue said: “I’ve got a new book coming out in September. It will be called Bliss On Toast. It’s just about stuff you put on toast.

“The simplest things are almost always the most enjoyable to do.”

Prue has managed to find 75 ways to get the taste buds tingling.

She added: “The best thing to put on toast is scrambled eggs and bacon. Other than that it would be the old classics like smoked salmon and cream cheese.”

Prue’s book will make her the toast of the town

“But I’ll have lots of other stuff in the book that’s very spicy and modern. I love vegetarian things as well.”

Prue is not the first chef to put the breakfast favourite on the menu.

In 2020, Nigella Lawson divided fans with her idea for “double-buttered” toast.

Meanwhile, Prue’s GBBO co-host Paul Hollywood, 56, has said the scrutiny he has faced since heading the baking show has “cut him to the core” and almost resulted in him losing his entire family completely.

Prue has been on GBBO since 2019

Paul said his family relationships took a “massive hit” once he stepped into the limelight – especially once he was caught and nationally outed for his affair with fellow US Bake Off judge Marcela Valladolid in 2013, which led to his wife of 20 years Alex leaving him.

He told the Daily Mail: “Would I have done Bake Off if I’d known all this stuff was going to happen, the loss of my private life? No, I wouldn’t have done it.”

Paul regrets doing GBBO

“Yes, the financial benefits are great. It’s a job, and to earn money you have to work hard, but ultimately what matters is your private life and your anonymity.”

He continued: “Trying to maintain family relationships is really difficult when they’re in the public domain. It’s hard enough outside the public domain, but to do it in the public domain is impossible.”
