Harry Styles 'didn't feel anything' during height of One Direction success

Harry Styles has shed light on his experience with One Direction, six years after the chart-mauling boyband announced they would be going on a hiatus.

After six years of non-stop touring, the now four-piece band decided to focus on their solo projects but had planned to reform the group one day.

Harry, 28, who recently released his third studio album, Harry’s House, has looked back on his time with the group while admitting he’s now found it easier to “protect his boundaries”.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the Grapejuice singer gave his pal an insight into his mental state in the band.

Harry said: “I kind of emotionally coasted, I didn’t really feel anything.

“We’d go through real highs in the band and stuff, and it would always just feel like a relief.”

The singer turned actor later noted how the band never celebrated their success, which includes five number one albums and four number one singles.

“Oh, we didn’t fail, that feels like a massive relief,” he exclaimed.

Now after stepping out alone, he admits that going to therapy has helped him process his emotions, explaining to Lowe: “I never really felt like I celebrated anything and I had a great time, like, truly.

“I think sometimes, with therapy as an example, is you open a bunch of doors in your house that you didn’t know existed.

“You find all these rooms and you get to explore them.”

Harry recently explained that he felt “free” after the ending of One Direction due to the cleanliness clauses in their various contracts.

The group were prohibited from acting in certain ways and what they could say in interviews due to their clean image.

Elsewhere, the hitmaker recently admitted that he felt ashamed knowing that people knew he was having sex during the earlier days of his career, after finding it difficult to trust people due to “kiss and tell stories”.

He told Better Homes and Gardens: “For a long time, it felt like the only thing that was mine was my sex life.

“I felt so ashamed about it, ashamed at the idea of people even knowing that I was having sex, let alone who with but I think I got to a place where I was like, why do I feel ashamed? I’m a 26-year-old man who’s single; it’s like, yes, I have sex.”

But it appears he still likes to keep his life private after recently dismissing claims of an alleged romance with Olivia Wilde after being asked whether they “fell in love” on the set of Don’t Worry Darling.

He told Howard Stern: “Oh, wow… how to answer this question, acting is kind of very uncomfortable at times.

“I had a wonderful experience being directed by Olivia.”
