EastEnders fans have praised Max Bowden, saying he should win an award after his recent storylines.
His character, Ben Mitchell, became the victim of sexual assault during Monday’s (May 23) episode after barman Lewis refused to take no for an answer.
As the popular BBC programme opened, Ben was seen looking distraught as he made his way out of The Prince Albert following the aftermath of the assault.
During the emotional episode, Ben confronted Lewis, explaining that he ignored his demands to stop while Lewis attempted to reflect the blame on Ben.
Lewis had told Ben’s husband that the pair had enjoyed a boozy night in Soho, which was certainly not the case.
Fans instantly took to social media to share their heartbreak as well as praise.
“Max Bowden better win an award for best actor otherwise I’m complaining to Ofcom #EastEnders,” said one.
A second went on to say: “Max is such an amazing actor truly deserves all the awards #EastEnders.”
Before another commented: “Very well scripted & written & performance with excellence Ben is disoriented, seems to be numb just hounded by Sam which he is not even aware shows his mental state #EastEnders.”
“Poor Ben stood out on the balcony he looks so broken #EastEnders,” typed another.
Another penned: “Keep in mind the aftermath is just as important as the act itself #EastEnders.”
As Ben confronted Lewis, he said: “You, raped me, forced me, that’s exactly what happened,” as Lewis said: “Who was sliding into who’s DMs [direct messages].”
“I was upset,” exclaimed Ben before admitting that Lewis was “twisting things”.
“I was the one who said head home, you’re the one who wanted a party,” said Lewis, before adding: “I said let’s go to Soho, who suggested going upstairs where no-one could see us, ’cause I think you’ll find that didn’t come out of my mouth.”
An emotional Ben told Lewis he initially thought he wanted to get with the bartender, while Lewis told Ben he made the first move.
“Then I said stop, I meant it, you held me down, I tried [to push you off],” said Ben.
Lewis added: “You had a drink, I had a drink, we messed around, it was a bit of fun.”
This frustrated fans who took to Twitter, with one saying: “Lewis made Ben doubt himself. #EastEnders.”
“Lewis twisting it #EastEnders,” said another alongside an angry face.
Another typed: “Lewis making Ben feel so small, it’s so heartbreaking #EastEnders.”
