This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were left in panic on Wednesday after a technical gaffe plunged the show into chaos.
As the TV duo promised viewers they could tune in to see Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis at 10.20, the hosts were left panicked after a the money guru showed up late for work and left the slot empty.
Show host Phillip, 60, stepped in and revealed producers had been forced to make last minute changes behind the scenes after 50-year-old didn’t show up for work in time.
He said: “We’re still waiting for Martin Lewis to turn on his laptop.
“But we’ve switched things around now.”
He couldn’t resist giving Martin a little scolding, and added: “So whenever you’re ready!”
Despite clocking in late, Martin finally made it on air before Holly and Phil swiftly moved on and declined to mention the gaffe again.
Martin went on to inform viewers about energy watchdog Ofgem, whose boss warned that bills will soar to £2,800 a year on average from October.
He spoke about the warm home discount scheme which is available to low-income households, usually on certain benefits, to help with energy bills.
Martin said: “This is uncertain, we are only part way through the price cap window, but we are expecting a price cap in October in the region of £2,800.
“I know this is a very distressing time for customers but I do need to be clear with this committee, with customers and with the government about the likely price implications for October.
“Therefore later today I will be writing to the Chancellor to give him our latest estimates of the price cap uplift.”
This Morning fans blasted the ITV show’s decision to invite The Staircase’s Michael Peterson live in studio during the episode.
The 78-year-old was famously convinced of the murder of his wife Kathleen Peterson in 2001 after she was found dead at the bottom of the stairs in their house.
In 2017, Michael entered an Alford plea to the voluntary manslaughter of Kathleen despite maintaining his innocence and he was released from prison for time served.
One disgruntled viewer wrote: “Why are they giving airtime to a man convicted of killing his wife?”
Another fan commented: “Why is someone who’s convicted of manslaughter allowed to come and tell their story?
“What an insult to the victim and her family.”
