The Osbournes now – harrowing drug addiction, health woes and 'secret' siblings

The Osbournes was an early noughties classic.

Legendary heavy metal rocker and wildman Ozzy Osbourne, his manager-wife Sharon and their children Jack and Kelly gave viewers a glimpse into their chaotic home life in 52 episodes across four seasons.

And they never skimped on the drama.

Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy and his family quickly garnered a reputation for having some of the filthiest potty mouths in showbiz, with the bleep machine working overtime to keep the MTV show clean.

The show, filmed in the family’s Los Angeles mansion, aired until 2005, with Sharon appearing as a judge on X Factor, a role held from 2004 to 2007, and again in 2013 and 2016.

Kelly recently said: “The first season was such a magical time in my family’s life because we had no idea what we were doing. We had no idea that the show would be so successful.”

But 20 years on from the reality show, what are the Osbourne family members up to now? Here, we’ve taken a look.

Even before the show ever aired, Ozzy Osbourne had a reputation for being a wildman.

His Black Sabbath bandmates even kicked him out in 1979 after a string of drink and drug-fuelled incidents.

The Brummie rocker has had a tumultuous time since the show stopped airing.

First, he re-joined Black Sabbath, but only temporarily.

Then in 2016, he and Sharon split after 33 years of marriage after reports emerged that Ozzy had been involved in an affair with his hair stylist.

He was treated for a sex addiction, and he and Sharon got back together.

Next, he and his son Jack co-starred in a brand new show, Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour, which ended in 2018.

He’s also had health problems, revealing in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with a mild form of Parkinson’s.

In February of that year, after postponing a number of his 2019 performances, Ozzy, now 73, cancelled his 2020 tour, giving medical treatment as his reason.

A few weeks ago it was reported that Ozzy and Sharon, both Brits, are quitting Los Angeles where they’ve lived for 25 years, to return to the UK permanently.

Sharon Osbourne became something of a national treasure during her time on X Factor and America’s Got Talent, and even had her own talk show in 2003 and 2006.

Sadly, she announced in 2002 that she had colorectal cancer, and had to have a double mastectomy in 2012 due to her risk of breast cancer.

Eventually she joined The Talk, an American talk show on daytime CBS. But in 2021, she landed herself in hot water after defending Piers Morgan and his comments about Meghan Markle.

Viewers accused her of racism and homophobia and she left the show.

But perhaps the most shocking change is the loss of her trademark, fiery red hair, as she recently let it go its natural grey.

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly is now clean living after years of addiction issues

Kelly Osbourne was still an angst-ridden teenager when The Osbournes was first aired and it wasn’t uncommon to see her hurling expletives at her nearest and dearest during fiery rows.

While the show was still on, she pursued a music career, releasing an album, Shut Up. It sold pretty well in the US and Europe and she even hit No.1 in the UK singles chart with Changes, a duet with her dad.

Fans didn’t hear her singing voice for a while, but in 2019, she competered on the bizarre ITV show The Masked Singer.

Kelly has also suffered with addiction issues. She’s told how she got addicted to opioid painkiller Vicodin at the age of 13 after it was prescribed following an operation to have her tonsils out. She later progressed to taking heroin.

She said that at the height of her addiction problems, she would take a daily cocktail of drugs, including amphetamines, tranquilisers and cannabis, as well as drinking heavily. She has been open about relapsing in 2021.

Kelly, who has also been fat-shamed at various times, said last year: “This past year has been the hardest year of my life. I was compliantly[sic] and utterly broken. I am still putting myself back together again.”

She said on her Instagram story: “I relapsed, not proud of it but I’m back on track and I will be doing a podcast this week where I tell everybody about what’s going on and what happened.”

She revealed on the podcast that she used to steal Alcoholic Anonymous badges to trick her mum into thinking she had stayed sober.

Kelly, now 37, has been to rehab several times, and was even put in a padded cell at one point for her own protection.

She said: “I never thought I’d be alive at 35-years-old. A lot of my friends didn’t make it and burying them was hard. I had survivor’s guilt for a long time. I’m almost three years sober.”

And some lovely news – she revealed this month that she’s pregnant with her first child.

Jack Osbourne

Jack Osbourne was only 16 when The Osbournes aired and, like Kelly, was something of a firecracker.

He suffered from addiction to drugs and alcohol, but finally got sober at the age of 17, and in 2021 he celebrated 18 years of sobriety.

Jack, now 36, had a major problem with heavy duty painkiller OxyContin, dubbed ‘hippy heroin’.

He told People: “It’s a part of my life. I got sober at 17 and … it’s a long time. I chose to kind of commit myself to living life sober.

“I think in this day and age when the opioid crisis is what it is — it’s the number-one killer of men under the age of 50, it’s actually lowered the life expectancy of Americans now — I think people need to be more open about, ‘Hey there is a solution to this problem. It might not be the only solution but there is one out there.’ ”

He got married to Lisa Stelly and the two had three children, Pearl Clementine, Andy Rose and Minnie Theodora, but the two divorced in 2019.

When he turned 26, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Sharon said of his illness: “The first thing Ozzy and I asked ourselves was, ‘What did we do wrong?’”

In December 2021, Jack got engaged to Aree Gearheart.

Louis Osbourne

Though he was never involved in the show, Louis Osbourne did have a media career of his own. Louis is Ozzy’s eldest son from his first marriage to Thelma Riley.

After finding success as a DJ in Ibiza, he set up his own record label with his actress wife Louise Osbourne.

But in 2013, Louis, now in his late 40s, and his wife filed for bankruptcy at Birmingham County Court.

His wife Louise told the Sunday Mercury: “We want to put it behind us and move on with our lives. I don’t really want to comment any further.”

Aimee Osbourne

Aimee, 38, grew up with Jack and Kelly, but decisively took no part in The Osbournes, choosing instead to stay out of the spotlight.

Speaking about her decision to remain a ‘secret’, she told the Independent: “Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television?

“I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable.”

At the age of 16, she moved out of the family home.

Kelly revealed on a podcast in 2021 that she and Aimee do not talk at all. She explained: “We’re just really different. She doesn’t understand me and I don’t understand her.”
