Coronation Street fans fear for Summer's health as she collapses in crucial exam

Coronation Street fans were left fearing for Summer Spellman’s safety when she collapsed in the middle of a crucial exam.

Studious Summer (Harriet Bibby) went in to school to sit an important A Level maths exam on Friday night (May 27) that she needed to “smash”, but it all went horribly wrong for her.

She had to be loaded into an ambulance and rushed to hospital after she collapsed during the number-crunching paper.

It came after Summer, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, had been toying with her blood sugar levels before the exam.

Earlier this week, Summer suffered a fright when she realised her insulin levels were too high after eating two bags of crisps and pouring her insulin down the sink.

Luckily for the stressed student, her blood sugar dropped to safer levels, which calmed her nerves.

However, Summer made the same mistake again when she poured her insulin down the sink again before her exam, and it backfired horribly.

It all started when she struggled to see her maths paper as her vision became blurred.

She flags the attention of teacher Aadi (Adam Hussain) to tell him that her blood sugar levels are high, so he agrees to let her take a minute away from the paper in a bid to help her.

But Summer starts panicking when she realises she’s left her diabetic kit at home – and it wasn’t long before she ended up in a hospital bed.

Later on at the hospital, Summer’s left worrying for her future as she fears she won’t be able to bag the top grades she wants to get into a prestigious university like Oxford.

Fans were worried for Summer, so they flocked to Twitter to comment during the episode.

One fan wrote: “Will someone please tell me why Summer is avoiding having her insulin? She now decides she needs it during her exam and hasn’t got it on her. My grandson never goes anywhere without his.”

A second commented: “Summer trying to ignore her diabetes will do her more harm long term…”

A third agreed: “The fact that Summer is in hospital yet again, is proof she’s not managing her diabetes…Safeguarding alert!!!”

A fourth added: “Summer needs to get a grip and just take her meds properly ffs.”

Summer suggested she’d self-sabotaged by skipping her meds, but she later vowed to her crush Aaron that she wouldn’t do it again.

She previously confessed her feelings to her new friend, but was gutted when he didn’t reciprocate.

He changed his tune on Friday though, because he visited her in hospital and told her he wanted to start over with her – even revealing that he too had an eating disorder.
