Gogglebox fans fuming as Channel 4 stars call episode from 1992 'the olden days'

Gogglebox fans were left in shock after two fan favourite regulars said that a clip from 1992 was considered “the olden days”.

Abbie Lynn and Georgia Bell have been on the series since 2018 but left fans fuming after they watched a clip from an early nineties Top Of The Pops episode.

The world’s longest running weekly music show aired from 1964 to 2006 and featured performances from chart topping singers that were in the running for the number one spot.

There was also a live audience present, often full of teenagers to appeal to the show’s target audience.

Re-runs of the show are often shown by the BBC and Abbie aired her thoughts.

The pair settled in for a night in front of the telly

She said she had “never seen this clip before” before Georgia said it “looked ancient”.

Abbie then commented: “I think it’s out of the olden days!”

Moments later they joked that they should have been watching “in black and white”, which left viewers feeling old.

They took to social media to express their dismay and one wrote: “Saying 100 Top Of The Pops is ‘ancient’ and ‘out of the olden days’. Oh, God help me. I’m seriously ancient, then. Good old Gogglebox.”

Fans couldn’t believe what they were hearing

Another said that “one way to feel ancient” is to have someone “describe 1992 as ‘out of the olden days’”.

Some made light of the situation and thought the girls’ comments were hilarious, as one viewer called Abbie their “absolute favourite”.

Other Gogglebox regulars commented on the show and Stephen Webb spoke to his husband Chris Butland-Steed about the throwback clip: “I was 21, no money but a glint in my eye. Got me everywhere!”

Viewers were upset that they had called 1992 “the olden days”

Dave and Shirley Griffith loved the choice of music in the 90s video and couldn’t resist joining in with Rivers Of Babylon by Boney M.

Boney M seemed a hit with the cast as the screen cut back to Abbie, who exclaimed that she “knew this one” when they performed their hit single Sunny.

She also asked her pal Georgia whether the bright lights of Top Of The Pops is “what night clubs used to look like back in the day”.
