Britain’s Got Talent star Darcy Oake revealed one of the “weirdest” messages he received after his first audition.
The illusionist, 34, rose to fame in 2014 after wowing the world with his jaw-dropping dove act which he spent over a decade perfecting.
After his first audition, judge Simon Cowell said he was “the best magician” they had ever had and he sailed through to the live finals.
The magician, who is originally from Canada, later became known for his daredevil stunts after he successfully escaped a death-defying bear trap with only seconds remaining.
Darcy finished fifth overall in the ITV talent competition and has gone on to have an incredible career, touring his act all over the world.
After Darcy’s first audition, he found himself receiving plenty of attention from the judges and his newly acquired fan base.
In an exclusive chat with Daily Star, the illusionist explained that receiving attention wasn’t something he was used to and that he was sent some strange messages.
“The attention was not something I was used to at all because I was always self-conscious about telling people what I did,” he confessed.
He added: “I got some weird messages for sure. Some guy messaged me and asked ‘can you send me a photo of your feet?’ So I went on Google images and found a photo of the nastiest feet I could find and sent them back to the guy.”
“I don’t know if he believed they were mine because I stopped checking the messages after that, but it was pretty wild for sure,” he admitted.
Referencing the attention he received from the judges who continually asked him to take his shirt off, Darcy explained: “It didn’t bother me, I was like, if this is what it’s gonna take to get this ball rolling then I’ll do it, I found it pretty funny.”
“Someone in my family said just go for it, buy into it, play along, do what you got to do. So I feel like I did what I had to do.”
Darcy confessed that he “underestimated” what going on BGT could do for him and said that decision “changed everything” for him.
He explained: “My life totally switched after BGT. It changed everything. I totally underestimated what it could do for me both career-wise and personally. People started actually coming to see me as opposed to me just being put in front of people.”
He said: “For the bird act to be the one that sort of did it for me after I’d been working on it for so long since I was a kid even, was incredible” before adding “so for that to get the reactions that it did was just mind-blowing to me.”
