Ant and Dec's 'big' Britain's Got Talent vote announcement leaves fans disappointed

The Britain’s Got Talent live semi-finals are well and truly underway, with the first performances aired on Monday.

The ITV talent show is being broadcast live for the first time in two years following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Monday’s show saw a wide range of acts competing for the enormous cash prize and a place at the iconic Royal Variety Performance, including Mel Day and Jamie Leahey.

During the show, Ant, revealed that they had some “big, big” news for viewers at home.

He said: “There’s no Britain’s Got Talent app this year, so RIP to the BGT A P P.”

David Walliams seemed overjoyed by the news. He said: “It was so boring hearing you talk about it every day.

“No app, fantastic!”

Ant quickly intervened and said: “Hold your horses just a second because, the app may have gone but as we’ve just seen there’s a brand new way to vote this year.”

Dec then revealed that people can now vote online for free by visiting the website or by scanning the brand new QR code on screen.

He said: “We’ve got a QR code, in your face David!”

Fans were left unimpressed by the big announcement

Whilst the presenters and judges were left amazed by the news, many viewers at home were unimpressed, sharing their disappointment on Twitter.

One person wrote: “Why have you taken away the app? It was so quick and easy to vote. I hate QR codes! I won’t be voting this series.”

Another said: “If they want me to use the QR code, they need to show it to me for longer than 5 seconds.”

One viewer Tweeted: “I prefer the app not the flipping QR code,” whilst another said: “An app is better than a QR code.”

The Britain’s Got Talent official Twitter account also confirmed the voting change and explained how fans could save their favourites.

They said: “”That’s right, the #BGT A-P-P is no longer!

“So, to get your votes in, head to https://itv.com/vote/bgt to register and vote when all of tonight’s acts have performed!”

Britain’s Got Talent continues every night this week at 8pm on ITV and the ITV Hub.
