Piers Morgan weighs in on Amber Heard's loss and says it's ‘a complete disaster'

TV Presenter Piers Morgan, 57, has described the result of Johnny Depp, 58, and Amber Heard’s defamation trial “a complete disaster” for the actress.

The Virginia jury on Wednesday (May 1) delivered its unanimous verdict, with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor being awarded $10 million (£8m) in compensatory damages and $5m (£4m) in punitive damages.

Aquaman actress Amber, 36, won one of her three defamation countersuit claims against Depp and was awarded $2m (£1.6m).

Reacting to the result live on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the former newspaper editor described the verdict as a “complete slam dunk victory for Johnny Depp” and a “wipeout for Amber Heard”.

He said: “It’s hard to imagine a bigger humiliation for Amber Heard. It’s a complete disaster and failure,” adding that he did not believe she would get any work after the case.

Several celebrities commented underneath Depp’s Instagram post, where he shared his statement about the verdict.

Former footballer Gary Lineker joked: “Depp wins and gets Heard immunity.”

Actor Ashley Benson commented with a heart and hands in the air emoji, while singer Ryan Adams added a heart, hands in the air and fire emoji in response.

The former couple were married in 2015, divorcing two years later.

Johnny Depp was awarded $15 million (£12 million) in damages

The court case came after Depp sued his former wife for over an opinion piece she wrote in 2018 for The Washington Post about her experiences with domestic abuse.

She later countersued, seeking damages and claiming that her ex-partner libelled her by calling her a liar.

In a statement after the result, Amber said she was “heartbroken” and that “the disappointment I feel today is beyond words”.

The trial began on April 11, with both actors taking to the stand to discuss details about their relationship. People who took to the stand included model Kate Moss, Heard’s sister Whitney Henriquez and employees of Disney and Warner Bros
