Music fans tune in to royals' enjoyment of Sam Ryder performance at Jubilee party

Music fans have sung the praises of Princess Anne after she clearly enjoyed Eurovision star Sam Ryder’s performance at the Platinum Party at the Palace concert.

Ryder, who came second in the recent Eurovision Song Contest with Space Man, has been hailed as the “new Freddie Mercury” after impressing fans with his “incredible” show at the London event yesterday (Saturday).

The 32-year-old put on a dazzling display as he took to the stage in front of a 22,000-strong crowd at Buckingham Palace.

But it was the royal reaction to his performance that had Twitter users commenting, with her being one of several in the box to give a enthusiastic round of applause.

One user, referencing the Queen’s daughter’s love of horses, said: “Princess Anne looked impressed by Sam Ryder, which is an achievement. Maybe it’s the long golden mane.”

Another commented: “Princess Anne loving a bit of Sam Ryder there. Bet she’s a big Eurovision fan,” while a different watcher added: “I think I saw Princess Anne say something along the lines of ‘he’s quite good’ after Sam Ryder finished Spaceman.”

Ryder’s royal performance led one user to respond by saying: “Princess Anne moved to tears by Sam Ryder! Space Man really explodes when performed live,” while another added: “Princess Anne deffo a massive @Eurovision fan!”

The list of commentators also included one that said: “I watched the royals reaction after your performance and Princess Anne loved it! Brilliant performance, Sam! X.”

Ryder showed off his sense of style in a denim jumpsuit embellished with sequins, making up a Union Jack in tribute to the Queen’s 70-year reign.

Freddie Mercury was in his pomp as the lead singer of Queen — and some said Sam was his spiritual heir

The musician had previously clinched the UK’s best Eurovision performance in years with Space Man, topping the leaderboard with the jury votes.

While he fell at the final hurdle to the Ukrainian Kalush Orchestra, many considered him to be their winner on the night.

After his party performance, some fans even called for him to replace Adam Lambert as the new lead vocalist to perform alongside the rock band Queen, formerly headed by Freddie Mercury, urging guitarist Brian May to contact the former TikTok star

One Twitter user wrote: “Adam Lambert did a great job but did anyone notice that Sam Ryder actually sounded like Freddie Mercury?”
