Chesney Hawkes' wild life – Hollywood career, famous family, lookalike children

Many will know him for his infectious hit single The One and Only which stormed him to the top of the charts in the 1990s.

But now more than 20 years on, it’s fair to say Chesney Hawkes looks worlds away from his 19-year-old pop star persona.

The music legend, 50, now boasts a loving family life with his wife Kristina Hawkes and their three children, Casey, Jesse and Indi.

But over the years, the singer has gone on to explore a range of other careers including his vast acting career.

Ahead of the musician’s new acting role on the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, Daily Star have taken a look inside his interesting life and career over the years.

The star – who was named after fellow artist and comedian Chesney Allen – was born in the heart of Windsor, Berkshire to doting parents Len and Carol Dilworth in 1971.

And it appears as though music was in his blood from the start after his father – otherwise known as Chip – found stardom in the 1960s as the bassist of the popular band The Tremeloes.

But his father isn’t the only famous face in their loving family, as his mother also used to shine in the limelight as an actress and game-show hostess who previously appeared in Randall and Hopkirk and The Haunted House of Horror.

It turns out he isn’t the only successful sibling from the Hawkes family, after his sister Keely Hawkes became the lead singer of the 1990s band Transister, who has now gone on to become a songwriter based in Los Angeles.

At the age of just 19, the blond hunk launched his music career with his hit single The One and Only which stayed in the number one spot for five consecutive weeks and remains popular to this day.

The beloved song was taken from the soundtrack to Buddy’s Song, a 1992 film the talented performer starred in as leading man Buddy.

In the teen movie, the star shared the screed with The Who icon Roger Daltry and proved himself to be a charismatic, likeable performer which led to his successful career on stage.

Chesney told The Guardian years later that his dad took him to audition for the role after seeing Daltry discuss the project on GMTV, and he beat hundreds of other hopefuls to win the coveted role.

His hit single has gone on to appear in various other films over the years, including the 1991 Michael J. Fox movie Doc Hollywood and three films directed by Duncan Jones, Moon, Source Code and Mute.

Hawkes followed his hit single with I’m a Man Not a Boy in the same year, but the hit track struggled to have the same success as his first single, after it reached the UK top 30.

Other singles include What’s Wrong With This Picture which was released in 1993 and Stay Away Baby Jane in 2002 which also entered the UK singles Chart but struggled to climb to the number one spot.

In recent months, the star has announced his UK tour 2022 where he will perform his top hits as well as some new music to his loyal legion of fans.

Before his music career took off, Chesney dabbled in acting as he followed in his mother’s footsteps and even managed to secure some minor roles before his big break in 1991.

The budding actor started out his TV career on The Bill in 1991 where he played the role of a young drug dealer, Colin, who was arrested on suspicion of possession.

Unfortunately, the budding actor only appeared in one episode but he only had to wait months before he took on the leading role in Buddy’s Song.

The story follows the exploits of Hawke’s character as he tries to make it as a pop star in the music industry.
