Dan Walker rushes daughter to hospital as she suffers 'buckle fracture' injury

Dan Walker ended up in A&E with his daughter after she suffered an injury to her finger.

The Channel 5 star, 45, shared the news to his Twitter account on Sunday morning (June 12) alongside a picture of his daughter’s hand which featured a badly bruised finger.

The former BBC Breakfast host penned: “Currently in A & E with our daughter who has a suspected broken finger. 4 hour wait has begun.”

A few hours later, the presenter updated his 761.9K followers with his daughter’s injury, posting another picture of her hand which showed two of her fingers bandaged together.

The dad-of-three also took the time to thank the NHS and the nurses working at Sheffield Hospital who helped his daughter with her injury which turned out to be a “buckle fracture.”

The caption read: “She has a little buckle fracture but all is ok. Thanks to the lovely staff at @SheffChildrens who are doing a brilliant job with staff shortages at the moment. The nurse who dressed it was 90 mins into a 13 hour shift! Love the NHS.”

Dan has been married to wife Sarah for 21 years and the pair share three children – daughters Susanna and Jessica and son Joe.

The presenter didn’t confirm whether it was Susanna or Jessica who suffered the injury or how it happened.

Despite several comments wishing the broadcaster’s daughter a speedy recovery, many fumed over Dan’s mention about a nurse’s working hours.

One wrote: “Absolutely agree with the sentiment that the NHS is fantastic. But your amazement at someone having a 13-hour shift does suggest you’re slightly removed from reality. It’s happening in all sorts of jobs…”

“Why the amazement of a 13 hour shift I worked 12 hour shifts back in the seventies it’s called grafting, sometimes I feel tv presenter’s have never done a proper days work in their lives,” another fumed.

The Football Focus presenter was forced to defend himself, assuring he was simply recognising the hard work the NHS nurses put in.

“Twitter is odd sometimes. Some people are angry about the mention of shift length. I’m not ‘amazed’ she’s doing 13 hours – my sister is a nurse and does it all the time. I used to do whooping great shifts 6 days a week,” Dan explained.

He concluded: “Nothing wrong with working hard. Have a lovely day.”
