Susanna Reid dubs Love Island 'Gemma Owen Island' as teen dominates each storyline

Susanna Reid has waded into the Love Island debate about why Gemma Owen is getting so much screen time.

The Good Morning Britain presenter said that Gemma, daughter of footy legend Michael Owen, is at the centre of each storyline – meaning that the reality dating show is dominated by just one person.

In the latest twist, Gemma’s ex-boyfriend Jacques O’Neill recently entered the villa.

Reacting to the latest bombshell, Susanna said: “Is it Love Island or Gemma Owen Island?

“She’s at the heart of every story so far.”

And viewers seem to agree.

Gemma, 19, was initially coupled up with Liam Llewellyn before being “stolen” by Italian stud Davide Sacrimenti.

She is currently coupled up with Luca Bish, 23.

In other Gemma news, she was agog over the weekend when rival Paige Thorne said she had a “resting b*tch face”.

In a clip from Love Island Unseen Bits, Paige, 24, was tasked with describing the fellow Islanders in one word.

While most were mainly complimentary like “sassy” and “positive”, she told Gemma she had “RBF” – or “resting bitch face”.

Gemma, a professional dressage competitor, laughed awkwardly and then just said “wow”.

Meanwhile, her dad former Liverpool and England striker Michael has opened up on the tough chat he had with her before joining the show.

Michael told The Daily Mail: “She talked about it with her mum first — they are like peas in a pod, best friends — and then they raised the subject with me over lunch.”

He continued: “I think a lot of dads would think it’s the most awful bit of news. My initial reaction was, ‘No, don’t do it’.

“But she wanted our blessing. She would never do something if she thought we’d be ashamed or disappointed in her, or her grandparents would be disappointed.”

The 42-year-old added: “You have two choices. You can either say, ‘No way. No daughter of mine . . .’, or you can be supportive.

“I think being supportive is always the better option. I suppose it comes down to love and trust.”
