Deborah James has 'no strength' as dad brushes hair in heartbreaking post

Dame Deborah James has revealed she no longer has the “strength” to brush her own hair.

The BBC podcaster, who is also known as Bowel Babe, was moved to hospice care last month during her tragic battle with bowel cancer.

The mum-of-two shared a sweet Fathers Day post to her Instagram stories on Sunday (June 19) showing her beloved father brushing her hair at home.

She captioned the post: “Happy Fathers Day! Yes my dad is brushing my hair because I have no strength anymore to brush this.”

The host of the You, Me and The Big C podcast has opened up about her family in recent weeks, thanking them for looking after her.

In an interview with The Sun, Deborah said: “They have all been incredible, going above and beyond to look after me and nurse me.

“What I have seen from them in the last two weeks is true love, deep love. It’s overwhelming.”

She said her main priorities are her young children – 12-year-old Eloise and 14-year-old Hugo – adding that she is trying to shield them from her lowest moments.

She admitted: “I feel very strongly that I don’t want my kids to see me agitated and distressed, I want to make sure they see me when I’m having a good day.

“I don’t want them to take on the burden of having to care for me, massage my legs because I can’t walk, that would break my heart.”

The podcaster and journalist was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in December 2016 and has spent the past five years raising awareness of the disease.

Back in May, she announced she was receiving end of life care at home.

Taking to Instagram, the cancer campaigner revealed in a heartfelt post that doctors have tried everything but her body “just can’t continue anymore.”

After revealing that she was receiving end of life care at home, the BBC star launched her fundraiser Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK to raise support for the charity.

It made over £1million overnight, with the fundraising total currently at £6.72m at the time of publication.

Deborah was awarded a Damehood back in May after raising over £4million for Cancer Research at the time.
