Love Island's Luca makes thinly-veiled swipe at Strictly Come Dancing star ex

Love Island’s Luca Bish, 23, made a cryptic reference to his BBC Strictly Come Dancing star ex on Wednesday’s (June 22) episode.

Eagle-eyed fans took to Twitter, where they noticed a little swipe about ex-Saffron Barker, 21, who appeared on Strictly in 2019, and who Luca dated before his ITV stint.

Reflecting on new bombshell Antigoni’s arrival, who quizzed the lads on the sort of girls they liked, Luca made a confession about his previous dating preference.

Speaking to the boys, he revealed: “I used to love a blonde.”

However, several fans took straight to Twitter to decode the confession, with many convinced the fishmonger was referring to his blonde YouTuber ex-Saffron.

One eagle-eyed fan tweeted: “Luca: I used to love a blonde. The blonde:” sharing a photo of the former couple together.

Another wrote: “Wait, Luca said ‘I used to love a blonde’ ahem Saffron Barker.”

A third person hilariously made light of his relationship with Gemma Owen, penning: “Luca said ‘I used to love a blonde’ like he’s married with three kids, he is committed to taking vacays with Michael Owen.”

Saffron and Luca attended the same school in their hometown Brighton and after growing close enjoyed a brief romance.

Speaking about their romance, Luca told Metro before his ITV stint: “I think she had just come out of a relationship.

“And then yeah, that was it. We just kind of hit the ground running a bit. We still remain really good mates.”

The 23-year-old revealed how dating Saffron gave him his “first taste of fame” as he made cameos in several of her YouTube videos.

Luca, who’s currently coupled with newcomer Danica Taylor, 21, has made it clear he wants to be with dressage rider Gemma, 19.

Since his new pairing, an expert has spoken about Luca’s hostile body language towards dancer Danica and what it reveals about his dating style.

Luca, who chose to sleep in the dog house rather than in bed with his new partner, confessed: “I won’t lie. I’m not wifed off, but for what I want she is that and it’s up to us what we do.”
