The One Show's Alex Jones scolds co-host Gethin Jones for ruining studio segment

The One Show’s Alex Jones told off her co-star Gethin Jones for a technical blunder that could have ruined a segment on VHS tapes.

The popular BBC One chat show returned on Thursday night (June 23) with Strictly star Claudia Winkleman, singer Yola and Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh.

But it wasn’t long before Alex and Gethin were hit with an awkward technical issue during a retro segment about videos.

Welsh presenter Alex ended up scolding her co-host on air for forgetting to rewind a video tape properly as it started playing at a seemingly random time.

Gethin started off by telling viewers about how Kate Bush’s 1985 hit, Running Up That Hill, which has shot to the top spot in the UK charts thanks to its feature on the Netflix series, Stranger Things.

He moved on to a segment about the revival of videos delivered by BBC presenter Joe Crowley, who told of how some film titles are now selling for thousands of pounds.

The report had been made to play on a video player, which was very fitting with the VHS theme.

Gethin said: “The good old VHS has been making the headlines too. So, Jo Crowley has made a little film about it.”

He proceeded to hold up the video tape before asking Alex to pop it in the large video player that could be seen in the centre of the studio.

Alex excitedly placed the tape in the VHS player, but was left worried when it started playing half-way through the report in question.

She quickly turned to him and cried out: “Oh, Geth! You haven’t re-wound it! Hang on.”

Gethin said it was a common problem with video tapes as she struggled to find the right point in the video report.

However, she couldn’t help seeing the funny side of the error as she started giggling before they were able to get the video playing properly.

Gethin started presenting BBC’s Morning Live in 2020, but he has been anchoring The One Show on and off since 2009.
