Pop Idol legend Michelle McManus teases huge career change with exciting news

Michelle McManus has some very exciting news.

The former Pop Idol legend is known for her powerful vocals and controversially won the singing talent show despite judge Pete Waterman branding her “rubbish”.

But that’s not all as the 42-year-old Scot has her sights set on something different – comedy.

Michelle announced on Instagram that she has a one-woman show that has featured at the Edinburgh Festival and will be bringing it to a theatre in East Kilbride for “one night only”.

The announcement says: “I’ll be bringing the very best bits of my 3 one-woman Edinburgh Festival shows to the Village Theatre in East Kilbride on Friday 12th August.

“I’ll be belting out the big numbers and telling some of my favourite comedy stories from the shows so if you’re looking for a fun night out you can purchase tickets from the link in my bio.”

The Daily Record has called her a “very, very good comedian” and the “new queen of the one-woman show”.

Michelle achieved national acclaim in 2004 when her debut album The Meaning of Love hit number three on the UK Albums Chart and went on to found her own record label, McMannii Records.

She has also appeared as a panellist on Loose Women, along with presenting the Scottish TV show The Hour alongside Tam Cowan.

Since then, she has gone on to welcome two children with her husband Jeff Nimmo – sons Nicholas and Harry.

Welcoming her son Nicholas in February this year, Michelle wrote on social media: “Goodbye January! Although I don’t know how any other month this year could top you as you’re the month we welcomed the newest addition to our family.

“Please say hello to Nicholas Peter Nimmo.”

She added: “You are so perfect in every way and we’re just so madly in love with you. Thank you for completing our family and our world. Love Mummy, daddy and Harry.”
