Inside Noel and Liam Gallagher's longterm feud – fights, online insults and going solo

Noel and Liam Gallagher have had one of the rockiest relationships in music history.

The brothers started out like any other normal siblings, but soon went on to achieve astronomical musical stardom after they formed rock band Oasis.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, they soared to the top of the charts and repeatedly smashed the number one spot.

They were both iconic characters in the 90s Brit-rock movement and famously had an ongoing feud with fellow chart toppers Blur.

However, they soon turned on each other and the band split after almost two decades of success.

Since then, the pair have both spoken about each other separately and their dislike for each other seems as rife as ever.

Noel was actually the one to admit that he started the feud between the pair on The Matt Morgan Podcast.

Liam launched a clothing brand called Pretty Green and sent his brother some items before its initial release.

However, Noel said that he donated the clothes – unworn – to a charity shop, which left Liam fuming at his sibling.

Noel said that Liam “went f****** mental” when he found out that the clothes were in a charity shop window, way before he had even launched the clothing brand himself.

He recalled: “Liam gave us a load of clobber, not just me, he [gave it to the band]. I went straight to the charity shop and left it in the shop doorway. He went f****** mental, he said: ‘If you didn’t want it, you should have said you didn’t f****** want it, you c***’.”

This was the “beginning of the end” and sparked a long line of insults and remarks from both brothers that have spanned decades.

Insults

The brothers famously have a very public feud with each other as they regularly insult each other in interviews, on television, the radio and online.

In 1994, Liam changed the words to Live Forever during a Los Angeles concert.

He implied that Noel picks his nose and then hit him over the head with a tambourine, before Noel decided to leave the band but rejoined them later on in the tour.

Perhaps a potential foreshadowing of their tumultuous relationship, the brothers didn’t hold back, and still don’t when they want to hurt one another.

They have been known to get physical and a baseball bat Noel once used to smack Liam in the head with was once sold, along with a certificate of authenticity.

They also love to sling insults at each other on social media.

Most recently, Liam responded to a video of Noel singing their hit single Wonderwall and called him a “s***bag”.

Fans responded to his tweet and one asked whether Liam “wished he could be on stage with him”, to which he replied: “Of course, miss him sooo much, man.”

However, those who know Liam well wondered whether his response was laced with sarcasm, but Liam has yet to confirm or deny whether it was genuine.

In response to another fan, Liam said that Noel had just shown them “how to ruin his own song”, which was met with laughter.

Projects

In the wake of Oasis’ split, Liam went on to form Beady Eye with fellow Oasis bandmates Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock.

However, after poor album sales they decided to go their separate ways and Liam embarked on a solo career.

Noel also launched Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and has achieved success with their discography, with their Greatest Hits album released just this month.

However, Noel’s passion still appears to be with his roots as he had planned to release an Oasis compilation album along with bonus unreleased material.

Although he had high hopes, the idea was scrapped and the secret songs may never be heard.
