Harry Potter stars' transformations – stripping off, weight loss and hunky glow-up

It’s been 21 years since fans were first introduced to boy wizard Harry Potter.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint shot to fame as Harry Potter, Ron Wealsey and Hermione Granger in 2001 and the trio have remained in the public eye ever since.

It was truly magical to see the younger members of the cast grow up throughout the eight films, but where are the former child stars now?

As Neville Longbottom star Matthew Lewis celebrates his 33rd birthday, Daily Star has taken a look at some of the cast’s most dramatic transformation over the year.

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)

Harry Potter was a curious boy drawn into a world of magic and through whom many millennials learned to love the world of wizardry.

Daniel Radcliffe was only 11 years old when he starred in the first movie and he’s now 32.

The actor reunited with some of his cast members of the Harry Potter film series for an HBO Max special titled Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which was released on 1 January 2022.

His projects for this year include starring as the villain in the action-adventure comedy film The Lost City, musician “Weird Al” Yankovic in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and t Charley Kringas in an off-Broadway revival of the musical Merrily We Roll Along.

Daniel also stripped off for stage show Equus back in 2007.

Emma Watson (Hermione Granger)

Emma Watson who played Hermione Granger was the youngest out of the three main characters in the first film being only ten years old.

She was a loveable character who was quick witted and very clever, which helped Ron and Harry out massively.

Emma is now 32 years old and has been ranked among the world’s highest-paid actresses by Forbes and Vanity Fair.

The movie star was also named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2015.

In 2021, there were various reports to say that the beloved actress is retiring but she was spotted reuniting with her childhood pals on the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley)

Rupert Grint played the loveable character of Ron Weasley in the films.

He is Harry’s best friend and helps him out throughout all of their crazy adventures as well as being a support for Harry with his difficult family life.

Since 2019, Rupert has had a starring role as Julian Pearce in the psychological horror series Servant that has confirmed its fourth and final season.

He has also been confirmed to be starring in the Netflix series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and in a new thriller film Knock at the Cabin.

And of course the January reunion wouldn’t have been the same without Ron Weasley.

Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley)

Ginny is Ron’s little sister and Harry’s love interest throughout the film.

When Bonnie Wright began filming she was just nine years old and now she’s all grown up and is 31 years old.

Bonnie does a lot of directing and work behind the scenes nowadays.

She was recently spotted on This Morning, talking about her new range of environmentally friendly products.

She is an active spokesperson for environmentalism and awareness of plastic pollution and puts a lot of her time into raising awareness on the issues.

Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom)

Matthew Lewis played Neville Longbottom in the first film when he was just 12 years old and has transformed from being the unlucky character he was in the film.

More recently, actor Matthew, who turns 33 years old on June 27. has appeared in the Yorkshire-set television series All Creatures Great and Small, which aired on Channel 5 in 2020.

The programme was renewed for a second series in December 2020.

He got married in 2018 to Angela Jones in Italy.

The couple had met in January 2016, when Lewis participated in the annual Celebration of Harry Potter event at Universal Orlando.

Harry Melling was thrust into the limelight when he played Harry’s spoiled cousin Dudley Dursley in the film franchise.

The actor looks completely different compared to his adolescent self thanks to his unbelievable weight loss.

Now 31, he’s admitted that he doesn’t get recognised by fans anymore after losing weight by mere accident.

During an interview with People magazine, Harry said: ‘I think it was an unconscious thing when it started to happen.

In the last ten years, he has established his acting career throughout a number of roles.

He starred in the superhero film, The Old Guard, and psychological thriller, The Devil All the Time, which both released on Netflix earlier this year.

Harry also wrapped up filming in July for the film adaption of William Shakespeare’s novel, The Tragedy of Macbeth.
