Stranger Things is the jewel on top of Netflix’s crown, but all reigns must come to an end.
Season four’s second part is now available to binge on the platform, with the final episode lasting a staggering two hours and 30 minutes.
Due to the epic length and the stakes of the season, some may think that this is the last few episodes of the series, but this isn’t the case.
Both Netflix and the Duffer Brothers, the creators behind the show, have confirmed there is more to come, and it isn’t just an extra season.
Fans should brace themselves, as the end begins after season four’s climatic final chapter.
Will there be Stranger Things season 5?
Yes, season five will in development, but the bad news is that it has been confirmed to be the final season of the series.
It was confirmed back in February, with the Duffer brothers writing: “Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things, at the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons.
“It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you’ll soon see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale.
“Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”
Season five is still in pre-production, so there is a long road ahead before fans can have a Netflix night and binge the last few episodes.
The creative duo have plenty of ideas for it, as they added: “But first we hope that you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down.”
Does Stranger Things season 5 have a plot?
It is still too early to tell what season five could be about, but now that season four volume two is out, fans can start putting together the pieces.
The obvious things to expect are Eleven and the teens all back running around across Hawkins and the Upside Down once more.
However, even though every previous season has included a new big bad for them to face, it seems season five could bring back Vecna once more.
Actor Jamie Campbell Bower may have accidentally set something slip he wasn’t supposed to in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, as he teased the ominous villain’s return.
He said: “Let me put it this way: I know about season five. Take from that what you will.”
Is there a Stranger Things spin-off in development?
Season five isn’t the only thing to look forward to for fans, as a spin-off is also in development.
In the Duffer’s open letter to fans, they added an interesting addition that raised a few eyebrows.
It read: “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.”
During an interview with Variety, the pair added more information for the project, though didn’t give any plot details away.
They said: “We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super excited about, but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet, much less written it.
“We think everyone — including Netflix — will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different,” they said in May 2022.
“But somehow Finn Wolfhard — who is one crazy smart kid — correctly guessed what it was going to be about. But aside from Finn [who plays Mike Wheeler], no one else knows!”
It is believe to be in development alongside season five, so it won’t be long before more details emerge.
